Winsome Wednesday - A Thought on Joy!

At the beginning of the year I chose "JOY" as my word for the year!  (See HERE for why I chose "JOY").  And as we bloggers do, I am testing to see where I am on my path to seeking and being filled with the JOY of the Lord.

So what has made me JOYful of late?

Over the last 7 years I went into a self-protective shell when it came to making big decisions or decisions that those who hurt us would potentially and in fear that they would cause trouble and prevent us from doing what we wanted to do.  So, because of that fear I suppose, we backed off from making such decisions.  Well, recently my hubby and I made a decision that we would not have made in the past 7 years.  Firstly, there was this new paranoia, but we decided to move forward in faith, trusting that if we were being set up, or if someone was using this to hurt us, not only would the Lord protect us, He would use it for our good!  I had great JOY in that moment!  It was a moment of stepping out in faith, yes!  But more so the JOY was in the strong belief that God would not allow us to be hurt or destroyed!  He will protect us!  In that moment, in my heart, was great joy..... and it lingers....

Another situation we are in is that my husband is supporting a family member financially and he decided despite how this person cannot see all that is transpiring in the family, to continue to do so to honour this person as per the Word and more importantly to honour the Lord.  But this person has since hurt us again.  We did not want to continue supporting them and continue being kicked in the teeth.  Then a Godly friend reminded us not to return evil for evil.  We prayed about our attitude and chose to continue to support this person in obedience to the Lord!  The scripture that confirmed this is
1 Peter 3 v 9:  Never return evil for evil or insult for insult (scolding, tongue-lashing, berating), but on the contrary blessing [praying for their welfare, happiness, and protection, and truly pitying and loving them].  For know that to this you have been called, that you may yourselves inherit a blessing [from God] - that you may obtain a blessing as heirs, bringing welfare and happiness and protection]. And JOY?  JOY came from choosing obedience!
These are just two situations in which I am noticing JOY!  I believe the Lord is showing me that choosing HIS way, brings JOY!  Choosing to trust Him, have faith when we step out, and choosing Obedience to His Word, all these things bring JOY!  And before you realize, there is a JOY growing inside!  Hmmm, this I can get used to.

Join me in finding JOY daily while seeking The Lord's Way!

God bless

  1. Oh yes Tracy; we need to choose joy even when we feel the hands of misfortune have snatched it away from us. Even in the darkest days, when sadness, bitterness, and painful circumstances may threaten to overwhelm us, God’s joy is there! (Your post is perfect timing for me since I am coming down with something and having a sleepless night!) We have to make a decision to choose joy every day. No matter what! :)

Blessings and sweet love friend! :)

  4. There truly is JOY in following the Lord. For even when the way is tough, He is there. In every circumstance, in every decision, His unchanging character and love carries us through.

    Yup, Jesus Only You!!

  5. Tracy, I loved your post on how obedience brought "JOY." I'm especially glad to hear that the Lord is freeing you and your hubby up to make decisions more easily. I know how I struggle with that so I recognize this as real freedom!
And the Scripture from Peter is definitely one I could paste on my mirror--or wall.
    Thank you,

  6. "I had great JOY in that moment! It was a moment of stepping out in faith, yes!"

How encouraging to read your two stories, Tracy. Thanks for sharing them, and thanks for your boldness in stepping out in faith to make hard decisions--and with joy!
