Winsome Wednesday - Joyful Joyful?

How many of you have chosen a word for the year and already had it tested?  Well my word is JOY and yes, it has been allusive!  I'm not saying I'm miserable or unhappy!  I'm fine!  Life is going on, there are no major issues happening and I'm trusting the Lord that we are in a season of peace and restoration.

But JOY.... inside..... can't feel it.  Now, I believe that inner JOY and peace is something that a person will feel ultimately.  But I think initially, one has to dig deep, spend time in the Word, focus on the Lord, submit your worries to the Lord....  You know, day to day choices on perspective!  The glass is half full, not half empty sort of thing.

I find myself mulling inside my head being bitter about something, or being small-minded about something, or moaning inwardly or judging or being critical!  Yep, the focus is all negative AND IT DOES WHAT?  IT STEALS YOUR JOY!

As I write here it is dawning on me that inner peace and JOY comes from a daily renewal of one's mind.  Replacing all the dark and negative thoughts with God's word and His truth!  So, on my goal towards HAVING and RETAINING JOY I know the thing to do is renew my mind DAILY with His Word!

Rom 12 v 2:  Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

What has God been showing you about your word, or your goals so far?

God bless

  1. Well, everywhere I turn, I'm reading something about "Love." It's not Valentine's Day--unless you're in the grocery store so why such a driving theme on Love in so many blogs. Amazing. I think the Lord is really trying to get something across to me.
Loved your post here. My mind is not exactly following the Love trail either. Got to get into the word.
    Blessings, Janis
P.S. Stop by and see my new blog home. I love visitors!

  2. What a JOY to read Tracey. Another though provoking blog. Joy can indeed be an elusive emotion/feeling. Just like love, happiness, thankfulness, appreciation and all those emotions not mentioned have their origins in our minds. They then can travel to our hearts and spread through our bodies like our life's blood as soon as we re-ignite those feelings when we wake. Some mornings I too occasionally 'forget' to light the spark that ignites the fire within me. Recently I have gifted myself quiet time in the morning just for that purpose- and my day flows like the stream that supplies the water to nourish my growth. The days I skip that moment ( am probably of the notion ' not needed today I am fine thanks' ) are generally drier and less colouful. My oh my, see how you prompted me early in the morning to become so philosophical.
Have a great day Tracey, I now know I wil- JOY is present today!

  3. Amen Tracy; a joyful person is difficult to tear down! And the best way to stand strong with joy is to always rejoice in the Lord. The joy that Jesus gives is not temporary, but permanent. It is eternal. :)

    Blessings sweet sister!

  4. I love how His Word can affect whatever One Word we have for the year. My word is Compassion, and I see it in my daily Bible reading all the time this year. God is so good to us!

  5. Yes, daily. I have thought that some things can be quickly attained and then forgotten, but when it comes to our relationship with the Lord, these desires of our hearts that God places there require a daily, a moment-by-moment laying down, revival, renewal, rejoicing, in His Word, in Him, by us. Nothing simple about it but ever so worth it all. Thank you for this reminder, Tracy.
    Caring through Christ, ~ linda

  6. Sounds like you've found the key to JOY, Tracy! Love your word for 2014 - JOY is my LIFE word - ha! Found you through Holly Barrett's blog. Glad to be linking with you this week. Many blessings!

  7. Tracy, it's so true that joy is found in His word. Thanks for reminding me and encouraging me to seek His word daily. My 2014 one word is Miracle and He is already showing me how He is working out miracles around me all the time.

  8. Oh, yes! It never fails! When we ask the Lord to teach us something - like with a word we choose for the year - He is more than willing to make it happen! :) My word is "fervent" and I'm learning a bunch about what it means to be fervent in the Lord! "Joy" is a great word, too! I learned the most about how to have joy when I started my gratitude list back in 2011....I've almost made it 1,600! and still counting! It reminds me how very blessed I am!! But having a renewed mind is vital...and that only comes through the work of the Holy Spirit in our life!!

  9. Trust me, my fellow JOY-full sister, God is teaching me a LOT about my new word! For one thing, I am finding out that the lesson of JOY is not always easy. Learning *happy* isn't that hard. For it comes naturally through happy circumstances. But JOY? Well, joy is a learned response I think. It is a matter of choice. A focused direction that one determines to follow, in spite of circumstances.

Happiness is easy - JOY is earned!

  10. You know we have the same word: Joy. I am grateful for what you wrote here. This week was a somewhat downcast week for me. Outside rain, gray skies and tears inside. I'm glad I was able to check your sunny blog about biblical joy :-)
    Hug from me.
