Winsome Wednesday - Be Still and Rest!

I think we are all at some point in our day waiting on the Lord for an answer.  Do we wait?  Do we go forward?  Do we ignore this?  Do we contact them?  Do we try that?  So many questions.  So many potential problems and so many outcomes we can imagine.

But at the end of the day, ONLY GOD KNOWS!  And it is our job to hand over our problems, big and small, to our Saviour, our Father!  He says so, He says to leave all that weight at His feet and walk lighter in the freedom of knowing that He is in control.

Ps 37 v 3:  Trust (lean on rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good;  so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.

You know, to be fed on His faithfulness is an amazing thing to think on.  Why?  Because God IS faithful and He cannot change who He is, thus He remains faithful no matter our failings.  My encouragement to you is to think on that and release your worries, every time they come to mind, to Him.

God bless

You're doing WHAT?????

Yes, I am, I am going to study further.  My hubby and I have signed up for a Bachelor of Theology.  Online studying so it may take a while!  At my age, studying further?  Well, my age doesn't scare me because online, who cares right?  LOL!  Even the studying doesn't scare me, maybe because I haven't received any of the course material yet!  Maybe then I will be scared.  Smiles!!!   Actually, I am very very excited!  I have wanted to study further for a long time.  And if I'm going to study further, then I want to study God's word!

(for those of you who KNOW me, note the tea-cup!)

About 10 years ago, both myself and my husband did 2 years bible school through the church we were at and I loved it.  I wanted to learn more.  But sometimes life just whacks you in the face and you have to deal with it, right?!

I have this hunger to dig deeper, know God's word more, understand more fully!  And as I study I will be blogging about what I've learnt, maybe throw out a few questions that I have been challenged with!  :) But I will be sharing every nugget I discover with you!

Things may change a bit around here.  I don't think I will change the furniture around too much but I might put Winsome Wednesday on hold while (only might) I see how much I can cope with.  I have to make sure that I don't mess with my Blog Goals (which you can read HERE).

So,  up, up and away.....

I want to encourage you with this thought, we are never too old to learn, and never to old to be blessed by God's word.  In fact the word says for us to remain teachable.  And if you do, I do not think we can imagine the blessing awaiting us in His word.

My Goal:  Ps 119 v 11: Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - The Word is Powerful!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

 Do you ever read the Word and wonder if your time could've been better spent?  Like you didn't get anything out of it?  I sometimes do, but I remind myself that reading God's word, whether I get something out of it or not, is obedience!  And God honours and rewards obedience.

Haven't you read something, a verse, a chapter, and it... well, meant nothing?  But then years later you read the same scripture and its "WOW" I never knew that!  I never SAW that!!!  That is where the daily digging in His word eventually rewards you with an understanding when you need it.

I was reading these verses the other day and it hit me between the eyes how powerful and rich God's word is:
Psalm 19 v 7 - 11:

  • (7) The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
  • The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
  • (8) The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
  • The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
  • (9) The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
  • The judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
  • (10) More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold;
  • Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
  • (11) Moreover by them Your servant is warned
  • and in keeping them there is great reward.

Wow!  Power!  My encouragement to you is to read the word whenever you can and remember that as you do, it is sinking into your very being and tweaking your understanding for a time when you really need it.

God bless

Your Strength - Is it Also your Weakness?

This is something that I am starting to realize about myself and sometimes see in others.  That thing that people consider your strength, often times is also your biggest weakness.  For example, I am forthright and tend to say it like it is.  This could be seen as a great strength!  Direct honesty, no misunderstanding as to what I mean, firm, decisive!  Right?

Well, the flip side of that is I could be considered rude, too direct, lacking in diplomacy (believe me, I am never going to be a diplomat - on any planet!), opinionated!  You get my point?

  • I have seen people who I consider to have great leadership skills use that gift to dominate, or control.
  • I myself have used my ability to be direct to cut people off, no nonsense, no sensitivity!
  • What about the ability to preach and teach?  I have seen that used to push that person's personal belief system instead of focus on the Word!
  • I've seen the very generous be overly concerned about the 'making' of money.

The point I am trying to make is that the one thing we consider to be our strength is often times also our greatest weakness.  If we are aware of that we can train ourselves to adapt and we can train ourselves to grow the good and squash the 'not so good' of our gift.  But the best way to "manage" our gift is to give it back to God and let Him guide us how and when to use it.

Every aspect of our strength can be utilized positively.  Because it is a strength given to us by the Lord it is something we can fall into naturally but it is His guidance that teaches us to use to wisely.

James 1 v 17:  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

God has given us free will.  It is therefore our responsibility to manage our gifts and strengths.  My encouragement to you is to allow God to lead you in your strengths and weaknesses and He will bring balance in those areas.

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Thank You!

This week I have woken up with a thought upper most in my mind - Thank you...  I woke up feeling like I need to let the Lord know what I am thankful for.  I feel I want to acknowledge things He has done for me.

One of the things I am truly thankful for is your participation on my blog.  I am thankful for the kind and encouraging words you leave here.  I am thankful for those who contact me directly who appreciate what I have had to say.  I appreciate that you take the time to visit.  I am thankful for all of you!  I am thankful for your links because I find great places of blessing and encouragement on your posts.

1 Thessalonians 5:11:  Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

God bless

A Little Perspective...

Sometimes our problems just seem insurmountable.  Seriously, I have felt and will again feel that way about things that happen in my life.  People tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel (and usually you think, "yes, a train!")  and others will tell you that someone out there is having it way worse than you.  And that is definitely true.  There are many out there who suffer way more than I ever have.

But.... in the moment, in the storm, in the desert... it still feels like the impossible has arrived.

And then... a scripture like this pops up and helps to put all our problems into perspective:
Ps 74 v 15-17:  You broke open the fountain and the flood;  You dried up mighty rivers.  (16) The day is Yours, the night also is Yours;  You have prepared the light and the sun.  (17) You have set all the borders of the earth;  You have made summer and winter....

God has got everything, absolutely everything, under control.  The devil wants us to believe otherwise, our circumstances make us believe otherwise.  But the truth of the matter is, GOD HAS GOT EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL.

My encouragement to you today is to remember God created everything, you, the world you live in, the universe.  Your tribulation is not a big problem for Him!  Let Him take care of it for you.  He wants you to focus on Him and while you do, He sorts out the problem in ways you could never imagine.  It does sometimes take time, but every speck of faith you can muster, is rewarded.

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Believe It!

Do you ever have that moment when you have a choice to believe the Word of the Lord, or..... run in the other direction? I think sometimes we choose to believe God's word when we get to that point when we don't have any other option!

Recently, a huge thing came to a head!  And I had a choice to believe what God had said to me through His word, through His children.... or I could hide myself away and hope for the best. I think with my mouth I spoke belief but in my heart, and in my head I felt like I was hanging over a cliff edge, holding on for dear life, hoping hoping hoping.....

Just before this event, I came upon a scripture that gave me great peace in this circumstance.
2 Tim 2 v 13: If we are faithless [do not believe and are untrue to Him], He remains true (faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself. Amplified

God knows that it is difficult for us to just jump over the edge in faith. He wants us to keep trying, but He understands that it is difficult. All I can say to this is that I am extremely humbled by the fact that God holds open His arms to me despite my lack of faith. In my circumstance, God did exactly as He said He would in His word. I am still doing spiritual cartwheels in amazement and great joy.  Solely because my God is great and He is faithful and He does as He says He will do  (Numbers 23v19: God is not a man that He should lie, not a son of man that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?).

My encouragement to you is to believe God's word for you.  He can be trusted!  He will do as He says He will do.  Just remember to do what He wants you to do, and that is to love Him, praise Him and TRUST Him.

God bless

This Too Shall Pass!

Life really sucks sometimes.  We have hardships, we have relationship stresses and strains.  Our world falls apart, or it feels like it anyway!  And sometimes it just feels like the good old days are a thing of the past!

But I want to tell you, you are in a season.  A season that will pass.  I believe God allows these seasons in our lives to get us to dig our roots down deeper.  Deeper in His word.  Deeper in His grace and mercy!  And when we are ready, when God's timing comes to pass, the season WILL change.

I know the last 6 years I have begged and pleaded with the Lord to change the season we were in.  It was tough, it was painful, it was sometimes very very lonely!  But I can feel the seasons changing now.  I can feel a renewing and a refreshing.  One of the reasons I believe this is because it seems the devil is trying to convince me of the contrary.  But because I determined to go through that tough season (although often kicking and screaming) with the Lord, trying to do things His way, I feel I am recognising the tricks of the evil one on this one.  Its actually so exciting and I feel humbled that the Lord is keeping my eyes open to this and I am not reacting the way I would have a few years back.

So, please be encouraged that if things are tough right now, try your very best to do things God's way, and you will come to another season a different, deeper person, closer to your Saviour.

What is God's way?

  • Praise Him despite your circumstances
  • Look up, not around you at your circumstances
  • Remain thankful, there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for.  At times all I felt I could be thankful for was the ability to inhale and exhale.
  • Let go and let God
  • Very important, read God's word with a hunger and faith that He will speak to you, change you, lead you and guide you.  His word is living, alive, powerful!
Having said that, know that this too shall pass.  A new season is awaiting you.  Remind yourself of this in faith.  There have been times that I had to keep reminding myself that I can't give up because I may be within reach of the goal, the beautiful valley of peace and restoration, that place where this tribulation has its end.  And, each tribulation does have an end.  It has a purpose, one we don't always recognise, but it does have one.

One of the tools the Lord used to encourage me and help me through was this awesome family of blogging women who reached out to me and prayed for me, so I in turn offer you the same.  Can I pray for you?  Connect with my via email for privacy but let me know!  God has given us each other to pray for and lift one another up!

Eccl 3 vs 1-8:  To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:  (2) A time to be born, and a time to die;  A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; (3) A time to kill, and a time to heal;  A time to beak down, and a time to build up;  (4) A time to weep, and a time to laugh;  A time to mourn, and a time to dance;  (5) A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones;  A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;  (6) A time to gain, and a time to lose;  A time to keep.  And a time to throw away;  (7) A time to tear, and a time to sew;  a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  (8)  A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace.

God bless
