Any doubts about the Word?

I heard a pastor Sunday morning say that he does not measure the bible by other books/writings etc!  No, he measures other literature against the bible.

This thought has stuck with me through the day because the Word is our manual.  Our guide map, given to us by an Almighty God Who wants to help us succeed in all He has for us.  If anything else you read, or watch, does not line up with the Word, then go with the Word.

2 Tim 3 v 16-17:  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,  (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There are many scriptures that tell us not to take away from or add to the Word:

Duet 4 v 2:  You shall not add to the word which I command you, not take anything from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command.

Prov 30 v 5-6:  Every word of God is pure;  He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.  (6) Do not add to His words, Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

Psm 119 v 160:  The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgements endures for ever.

Rev 22 v 18-19:  For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:  If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;  (19) and if anyone takes away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The point I am trying to make is that no matter the circumstance, no matter the problem, the Bible, God's inspired Word is the answer.  I say "IS" the answer instead of "HAS" the answer because I know what it is like to go and read the word and find... well, nothing helpful.  But I think it is more in the reading of God's word in obedience that God sends the solution, or the way forward, for us.  He opens our eyes to see and our ears to hear, when we reach for His word in obedience.

My encouragement to you is to keep reading the Word.  You will find peace, revelation, restoration, love, reproof, encouragement, in the pages of God's Word.  He wrote it for you because He loves you.  It is a tool for you to LIVE!

God bless

  1. I linked right after you. Enjoyed your post today. SA is near and dear to our church family. Blessings.

  2. Excellent post, Tracy. My post today was also about the Word. It's amazing to me that it means more to me the older I get. A living, breathing Love Story between God and His people.

    A tool to live indeed!

  3. I like what you said; it is more in the reading of God's word in obedience that God sends the solution, or the way forward, for us. I love how the Lord works that way.

  4. Thank you for sharing at "Tell Me a Story. I love it when we view the Bible as "God Speaking to ME." Many times a verse seems to jump off the page, and I know it is a word for me.

Your scriptures selected are confirming that we must not add or take away from God's word. Some today tear certain pages from the New Testament and say that was then but not for now. May we believe every word in the Bible and begin to act like Jesus told us to do.

  5. I like the pastor's thinking. I've been thinking this week about how the Bible never gets old. I don't like to read books over but I've read the Bible over and over and it's always fresh.

  6. The WORD is truly a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path!

  7. Hi there,

Love God's Word too and how it speaks into my life. Always challenging but always full of grace. Too many Christians read Christian books more than they read the Bible.
