Winsome Wednesday - Captive?

What is holding you captive?
  • Is it an idol? (TV, sports, hobbies, etc)
  • Something that steals your joy, your peace, your time?
  • Are you trying hard to please someone? (a spouse, your boss, your children)
  • Are you trying hard to excel, achieve?
  • Something or someone in your past?
Are any of these things holding you captive?

The word says Christ has come to set the captive free - that is you and me - Luke 4 v 18(b): ... He has sent Me (Christ) to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed.

I think we have been set free but we still "feel" the marks and tightness of the shackles so we still "feel" captive.  The thing is though, in Christ Jesus, through Christ Jesus, WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE.  So, it does not matter how it "feels".  It only matters that "it is" as the Word, God's Word, says it is!

God bless

This is a space to come and be encouraged.  You can link as many posts as you want so long as they bring glory to the Lord.  If you have time, please visit the person ahead of you and I am sure you too will be encouraged.  I look forward to seeing you here.

Feel free to link up below:
(please note, this linky is open until late Sunday)

  1. Great post Tracy. I was just reading BelovedBombers blog and there was a part about shackles on it. As you said, we still feel captive but Praise God, WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE.
Thanks for this great uplifting post!

  2. I think mine is more idle than idol. Enjoying my free afternoons although I am missing my parking spot buddy.

  3. Unjustified hurt by others who you'd think would be your biggest supporters - oh,sometimes that holds me captive! How do you let that roll off? Unconditional love is sometimes a painful kind of love:(

  4. Thanks for this post Tracy. Indeed we are set free and we need to grab a hold of this powerful truth by faith. Unfortunately many of us try to do it by feelings and we get so disappointed because we do not "feel" anything as you said. The things of God are accepted by faith and it is great that you brought it to our attention today ! God bless you and thank you for hosting this blog link-up.

  5. Thanks for hosting this link-up once again Tracy. Indeed we are set free through Jesus Christ but we all try to grasp for that freedom with our feelings more than by faith. The things of God are received by faith. May God help us as we receive His salvation and freedom by faith in the Name of Jesus Christ !

  6. Beautiful Tracy; in Jesus, we have freedom from all that threatens to drag us down! Jesus says that in him, we can be free indeed; when we let go of whatever keeps us captive, we can live into our truest identities as loved children of God. :)

Blessings and joyful hugs friend of mine!

  7. Thanks for this great posting. I like this: WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE. Thats where I will think about today.

  8. I'm so glad that our freedom has nothing to do with our fickle feelings.

  9. Great reminder Tracy. We need to retrain our brains to focus on His Truth.

  10. HOPE you and your family has a great THANKSgiving. Thanks so much for letting me join!!

  11. You are so right, Tracy, we are set free, shackles completely removed but we still keep operating within the same boundaries that we did when we were shackled with no freedom. Wonderful reminder. Bless you!

  12. Praise God that He came to break our chains! Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  13. I am so thankful that things that used to weigh me down don't any more. Being free is so much better than being "captive."
