Winsome Wednesday - Grabbing Hold of Psalm 37

I read Psalm 37 this morning and at first I just sort of scanned over it.  Then I reminded myself to actually focus on the words already!!!!  I found some seriously good gems there!  Some needed encouragement and direction for how to cope day to day....

Psalm 37 Nuggets:
  • Fret not yourself because of evil-doers (vs 1)
  • Trust in the Lord and do good (vs 3)
  • Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart (vs 4)
  • Commit your way to the Lord (vs 5)
  • Be still and rest in the Lord (vs 7)
  • Wait patiently and lean on the Lord (vs 7)
  • Cease from anger and forsake wrath (vs 8)
  • Wait and hope and look for the Lord (vs 9)
  • The meek shall inherit the earth (vs 11)
  • The Lord upholds the righteous (vs 17)
  • The righteous shall not be put to shame (vs 19)
  • The righteous deal rightly and give (vs 21)
  • The steps of a righteous man are directed and established (vs 23)
  • Depart from evil and do good (vs 27)
  • The righteous shall inherit the land (vs 29)
  • The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom (vs 30)
  • The law of God is in His heart (vs 31)
  • Wait for and expect the Lord and keep and heed his way (vs 34)
  • The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord (vs 39)
  • He is their refuge and secure stronghold (vs 39)
  • The Lord helps them and delivers them (vs 40)

I hope this encourages you today as it has me.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Grace in Forgiveness!

I've been making my way through Psalms lately and, well, I love Psalms.  David writing his heart and soul out, good or bad, really makes me feel hope for myself and how up and down my emotions can get.  The thing I get from his words apart from the encouragement etc, is that David was genuine in his feelings.  He expressed himself, happy or sad, frustrated or elated, and let it all out!  He was either truly joyful, truly repentant, truly worshipful!  This gives me comfort in knowing I too can truly express myself before my God.

The scripture that stood out for me recently is Psalm 32 v 1:  Blessed is he who has forgiveness of his transgression continually exercised upon him, whose sin is covered!

When I read this I was really cross with myself for yet again repeating something stupid.  And I asked the Lord to forgive me AGAIN, and I read this.  Firstly, I was overwhelmed because of His great mercy and grace for me and secondly, He says I am blessed and I am forgiven.

God is amazing!  And a loving Father of note!  We as His children are immeasurably blessed.  My encouragement to you is to see His grace and mercy in your life.  It changes your heart, toward yourself and others.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Perspective

Recently we visited Dakar, Senagal.  I was not impressed.  I saw dirt, illness, poverty, oppression and did I mention dirt?  I took lots of photos hoping to catch something to show for my trip there but was truly not happy or thrilled about anything I saw.  I was extremely happy to be going when we all climbed back on our bus to leave.

Then this week, people we met on our trip sent us their e-album of their photos.  I was having fun looking through and seeing what they captured on camera.  Then it came to the section on Dakar.  I was amazed!  As I looked through the pictures I realized that they had caught way more colour and vibrancy than I did.  Their photos showed life and optimism.

It made me think straight away about perspective.  I had been unimpressed from the get go and saw what I was looking for; dirt, darkness, no colour, povery, etc!  This couple had seen the rich colours of their transport, their clothing, their relating to one another.  It kind of gave me a wake up call.  One should seek out life and not death IN ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE.  God is everywhere, even where people have not yet found or acknowledged Him, He is there, to be found! So I looked through my photos again, with different eyes, with a different perspective, and I did indeed find colour!  Yes, its there to be found!

So my encouragement to you is to find the colour in your life today, and every day!  That colour is God-given and He puts it there to encourage our joy and to KNOW He is with us and aware of our circumstances.

Eccl 3 v 11:  He has made everything beautiful in its time.  Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

Seek out today, the beauty God has put in the world, it is there....

God bless

God is God of the BIG and SMALL!

God's grace is amazing!  God's grace is unmerited and hugely desired.  I am so humbled by His grace and His mercy for little old me.  I am sometimes stunned that the little things that I care about, HE CARES about!  I am floored!

I know God is God of the big things.  Just look at the earth, the heavens, the seas, all of nature!  Amazing and astounding and beautiful and amazing.... Did I say that already?  And I know that God is God of the little things too.  Just look at a bumblebee, any flower, a drop of water, each and every microcosm of life.  Yes, God is God of the great and small!

That in itself is humbling and awe-inspiring!  The thing that floors me is how God cares about the little things in MY life.  There are the big things, marriage, children, finance, health, etc!  But there are the little things, my hair, my weight, my home and what is in it... you know, the things that are nice but not of earth-shattering importance to survival.  YET.... He cares!  Insert person with jaw hanging on the floor.

Now on one hand, its actually insulting to the Lord that I am so stunned.  Its not that I should expect that, but its that I should not be surprised by His abundant and all encompassing love for me.  On the other hand, I think the Lord loves that He can shock us into silence happiness and Joy every now and then!

I want to encourage you by reminding you that what it really boils down to, is, God cares about EVERYTHING you care about, big or small!  Never doubt that!

James 4 v 6:  But He gives more grace.  Therefore He says:  "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

A great reminder to receive all of God's grace with humility and thankfulness.

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Social Media and Me!

Lately I find I am constantly on the phone, or the ipad or the laptop and once I have done what I need to do, a new post, checking mail, catching up on conversations, I find I STAY on social media WAY TOO LONG!

Recently on facebook there has been a video going around called "Just look up".  This video spoke into my heart and kind of kicked me in the butt because that is me.  Constantly looking down, constantly checking my phone!  When I find nothing there I move to my ipad!  Enough is enough!  Its time to get a little perspective.

Blogging and communicating is a very important part of my life.  I have learnt so much and gained so many precious friends.  But I must not jeopardize my relationships that are face to face either.  My real family and real friends.  (I say REAL because I have learnt there are huge differences between the REAL and the NOT REAL).

I want to be present!  I want to give the person with me all my attention and because of all the bad social media habits I have collected, for example constantly checking my phone, this is going to be a real challenge for me :) .  So, join with me and do a little housekeeping!  Check yourself and your social media habits and just make sure they are not negatively impacting your friends and family.  I will be putting down some internal rules for myself and hope to make sure that although my laptop, phone and ipad are constant companions, my "people" will come first!

God created us to be social but we need to use social media and not let it use us!

Psalm 118 v 24:  This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and  be glad in it!

I chose this scripture because to enjoy each other's company does bring joy and we should enjoy those God places around us.  He places them in our lives for a reason.  I truly appreciate my online friends, believe me, you have been very important in my growth and my relationship with the Lord, but I need to not allow my bad social media habits to negatively affect my relationships of those the Lord has placed in my life.

God bless friends

God will Hassle you!

I have noticed in some situations in my life how those who love the Lord seem to sometimes be dealt with more swiftly and more harshly when the Lord corrects them than those who do not believe.  (Okay, okay, that is also how I felt about being "dealt"with!)  That is an observation rather than a statement of fact.

2 Chron 36 v 15:  And the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent to them persistently by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.

My husband and I discuss this every now and then and we believe that God is so jealous for our love, and does not want to lose one of His own, that He tweaks you until you turn back to Him.  Does that make sense?  He literally does whatever it takes to get your attention back on Him and His way.  Why?  Because He loves us and knows what awaits us if we are lost to Him.

Now a post or 2 ago, I said God does not force Himself on us.  He doesn't, I don't believe!  But, I also believe that He does not want to lose us either.  So, He does not tie our hands behind our backs, He does not keep us captive!  No, He gently leans on you in ways only He knows are going to get your attention.  For some, its money!  For others, maybe health!  And yet for others, relationships, family, friends.  And in this way we realize our great need of Him and we turn back to Him and seek His forgiveness and His path.

Whatever it is, He uses what He can to bring us back to Him.

The unsaved?  I think He gives them chance after chance to make the decision for Him, themselves.  It often seems to me they get away with stuff but in reality, and in God's word, that is not true.  God is a gracious and patient God, but He will not wait forever!  But once you are a born again believer, He does not want you to be lost to the world again and wants to keep you close.  He reels you in quickly to prevent you from tumbling further!  And then He allows you the choice - tumble, stumble, or reach out for His hand?

I encourage you to strive to always keep close to the Lord, to prevent tumble and stumble and grazed knees due to our own pride and self-sufficiency!

God bless
Tracy
