Another Definition of Closeness!

As I was hanging the washing up the other day, I was mulling of the closeness, or lack thereof, between myself and my daughters!  I felt wounded because I want to be close to my daughters as I was never close to my own Mom.  Now don't get me wrong, I love my Mom.  We're just not close!

James 1 v 17:  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Yes, my children are gifts, good gifts from the Lord for which I am truly and humbly grateful.

Winsome Wednesday - A New Season!

Join me, and Lulu-Belle (our princess) enjoying this new season in your life.  And if you're not there yet, thank the Lord for the new season that is coming... Because it will!

Isaiah 43 v 18-19:  Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  (19) Behold, I will do a new thing;  now it shall spring forth;  shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Capture the Lie - Replace it with the Truth...

Do you ever find you are feeling negative and you feed into it?  Do you talk to yourself and have conversations with those thoughts in your mind?  Do you find yourself getting more and more depressed and negative?  Eventually, for me, I end up having a pity party, attendance 1!

Finally, I realize I need to read the word and slowly but surely the pity party ends and the sun seems brighter, things don't seem as bad as they did the day before and even if things are really really tough, I start to feel hope.

Now the point here is twofold.
  1. Listening to the lies in my head lead to, well.... no where but down and out and depressed
  2. Not immediately capturing that thought, identifying it, and replacing it with God's truth, well, leads to destruction and its all downhill from there...
Recently I was feeling very negative about a situation and even went so far as to vent on a friend's shoulder and thankfully she is God-sent and guided me to hold those thoughts captive!  And replace it with God's truth.  I told her that even though I would encourage someone else to do the same thing, I felt I was in a space where I would not know where to even start to do things God's way.  See how the evil one confuses you?  Eventually I prayed and told the Lord, "even if I don't know how to go about this, I know that reading the Word is the first step and Your Word Lord is alive and it will start making changes in me."
  • So you start small
  • You start with one lie YOU KNOW IS A LIE!
  • You seek the answer, the truth, in God's word!

For example, the lie that gets me often is that I am not worthy.  Worthy of being treated right, worthy of being helped, worthy of whatever.... But that is not the truth!!!! I am worthy because of the blood of the Lamb, worthy because I am a child of the Lord, worthy because He chose me, He saved me, He is my righteousness.  The word says so.  I have started a Lie/Truth journal so I can come back to it.  To write something down is a way of learning for me so it kind of gets in my head (finally).

The point is, find a way of getting the truth into your head and re-record over the lie!
  • Identify it,
  • replace it with truth,
  • keep that truth nearby for when you are weak and the evil one tries to remind you of this lie!
2 Corinth 10 v 5:  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

I encourage you to not let those lies grow in your mind.  Capture them and replace them with the truth, God's truth.

God bless
Tracy

A New Season

God's Word is full of newness.  A new season, a new day, a new covenant!  For this I am very grateful because if I were to not have the opportunity in Christ to be renewed, refreshed, restored, I would be swamped under with negativity, disappointment (in myself and others), and weighed down by sin.  I would be NOTHING without Christ, without His forgiveness and His grace and mercy!  All of which are undeserved and unmerited!

So join with me today in acknowledging our Lord and Saviour and giving Him thanks for all He has done for us and is doing, and still will do!  Some of us have been through recent storms, some of us are going through rough ones now, and some of us are heading for a storm.  I'd like to say to all of us, no matter where we are on our life journey God is with us.  He says so in His word and He is not a liar!

Eccl 3 v 1 - 11:
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

A Twist on Honour your Mother!

A while back I was asked to guest post and write about a "legacy" left to me and my Mom came to mind.

  • My Mom had me "Christened" as was the done thing to do in her day, and
  • She dropped me off at Sunday school from the time I was 7 or 8 years old.

She wasn't even (and still isn't) a Christian!

Now that is God!  My Mom only goes to church for births, deaths and weddings!  My Dad was also not a believer either.  In fact, he did not want to know anything about church or God.

But.... because my Mom dropped me off at Sunday School every Sunday (and keep in mind she worked full-time so this was a sacrifice for her), I became a Christian as a young teen.  This changed my life.  My brother followed suit and he too is a Christian today.

When I met my husband we were both a little lukewarm in the Christian department at the time.  We chose to go back to church, rededicated our lives to Christ, got engaged, married young (I was 19 and he was 24) and now 25 years later, we still serve the Lord.  Our two daughters serve the Lord (for which I am truly grateful), and they date guys who serve the Lord, for which I too am truly grateful!

A mother's gift? Love of the Lord
All because my Mom, a non-believer, dropped me off at Sunday School every Sunday.  Yes, she was used of God!  Yes, she was part of His plan for me.  So I feel, because of her sacrifice and faithfulness to deliver me to church every Sunday (and Friday and Saturday - thanks Mom), I believe the legacy left to me or given to me, is the best one, the only one!  I have eternal life, through Christ Jesus because of my Mom's faithfulness.

In honour of her I will continue to pray for her salvation so that she too will experience the love and grace of the Lord.

Exod 20 v 12:  Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

My encouragement to you is never think the things you do for your children go unnoticed or unrewarded.  My Mom's efforts got me saved and she does not even understand that.  As Christian moms your efforts have great spiritual value and in time you will see that.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - In need of Wisdom?

I feel I need some guidance, some inner oomph, some Godly strength!  Always, my go to place is Proverbs!  My encouragement to you is if you want to know God's word on "people skills", read Proverbs!  Want to grow in relationship with God?  Read the Psalms.  And the rest of the book as well of course!  :)

Prov 4 v 6:  Forsake not Wisdom, and she will keep, defend, and protect you;  love her, and she will guard you.

Dreams Do Come True....

Yes, they do!  But sometimes not always the way we expect them to.  Firstly, I think God changes our dreams as we strive to know Him better and spend time with Him!  They change, they become something we maybe don't want anymore, or.... we become more passionate about a certain dream.

My husband once wrote out a list of his heart's desires and many years later came back to that list.  He noted that some dreams had been met, some had changed, some he had no desire for anymore and some he felt even more strongly about than before.

Ps 147 v 11:  But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.

I believe this is because as one walks closer to the Lord, there are things in us that grow, change, mature!  Things that God wants us to deal with.  Things He wants us to overcome.  God is the ultimate parent!  He knows, to give us what we want, when we want it, is not always a good thing.  It could destroy us, set us back, or change our attitudes negatively.

One of my dreams has just come true!  Something I really desired but never truly believed I would achieve.  But,  the Lord wants to bless us!  The word says He looks for opportunities to bless us!  Sometimes we are blind to these opportunities, and sometimes we can't accept the blessing because we do not think we are worthy.  And sometimes we are just not READY for His blessing.

Ecc 2 v 26:  For to the one who pleases Him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner He has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God.  This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

 Its about learning to trust God knows what is best for us.  Its about learning to trust His timing in when and how He blesses us.  He, ultimately, knows us best and knows what is best for us.

My encouragement to you is to seek God always, study His word, trust in His word, because He will guide you and lead you and in that will be much blessing.  Your joy WILL be full.  And, those dreams, trust Him to fulfil them, remove them if they are not for your good, or change them into huge blessing.  He loves you more than you can ever fathom.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Have a cuppa tea with me?

Anyone who knows me online will know I LOVE my tea and I post tea comments, teacup and teapot pictures, tea quotes.  Its a laugh and amuses me.  Often times people think I must be a total TEA Drinker!  That I must have copious cups of tea a day.  Smiles!

But the truth is I have maybe 3 cups a day.  Less in summer, maybe a bit more in winter (it is cold then you know!)  Seriously though, its not the quantity of tea that makes me a tea-lover.  It is not even the quality of tea!  I am so boring when it comes to tea.  I like NORMAL tea.  Nothing funny or aromatic or fruity, or "different"!  Just NORMAL!  Lol!

I think what I love about a cup of tea is the event itself!  I put the kettle on, get out a favourite cup, make sure all immediate stuff is out the way!  Add my sugar and milk, find a spot be it on the couch or in front of my laptop, sit down, exhale and have that first comforting sip..... Yep, I love my cup of tea.  I think its my calm moment in the day!

The point I think I'm making is that I have made my cuppa tea a special moment.  So, before I sit down to blog, or have a quiet time, or share a moment with a friend, I prepare my special moment so I can focus!  What is your special moment?  What do you do to get into your groove?  I would love for you to link up and leave a comment so we all get to know one another more!  I little fun midweek!

1 Thess 5 v 16:  Rejoice always

God bless
Tracy
