Winsome Wednesday - Seek Him first!

I am a practical person and I tend to try sort problems out by myself.  But you know, there are some problems that you just cannot solve and truly, maybe God does not want us to solve them.  He wants us to trust Him to solve the problem.

The sad truth is that in my life I tend to try and try until I have no more options, until there is nothing more I can do AND THEN I let go and let God!  Sigh!

I am learning however, to stop, think things through, and try to release things to the Lord.  And you know, when I do, things do work out!  And if they don't work out right then and there (which, lets be honest hardly ever happens) my attitude in the problem starts to change and the problem does not seem so overwhelming any more.  Sometimes, the problem recedes so much that over time, I look back and see how it got resolved without my interference!!!!

So, my encouragement to you is to practice letting go, and let God!  He has the bigger picture, He knows why you are going though what you are going through and He will work it out for your good if you lean on Him and trust in Him to do so (Rom 8 v 28).

How do you do that?  How do you let go?
  • When the problem comes to mind, start praising the Lord
  • When the problem comes to mind remind yourself that your God is way bigger than any problem
  • Remind yourself of what God has already done for you
  • Play your praise music at full volume and sing, because you cannot talk/sing and think at the same time (if you are focusing on what you are saying/singing)
Can you think of any other ways to let go?  Please share with us in the comments, we all could use good Godly advice!

Matt 6 v 33:  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God bless
Tracy

He - is More Gracious - than ANY other!

The other morning I woke up, made a cup of tea, sat down and started to get ready to have a quiet time.  And as I sat down I had this overwhelming joy that His mercies are NEW EVERY DAY!  (Lam 3 v 23).  I have been putting myself under some serious condemnation lately.  Blaming myself for stuff that is not my responsibility.  You know, deep down I knew these were not my issues but I took them on thinking that if I took responsibility for them I could move forward.

Well, duh, no!  The thing is, to do something like that brings resentment.  Brings bitterness!  Brings anger!  So, obviously that is not God's way.  What I should have been doing is forgiving the person whose issue it was and asking the Lord to deal graciously with me and with that person.  There are people in our lives who have the ability to manipulate us, who have the ability to make us feel guilty about things that are not!  Its the devil's way of bogging us down and blinding us to the strength and power of the Lord to heal and repair and restore.

Sigh!  Sometimes we really have to knock our heads hard and be in a situation where there really are no more "human" solutions before we give up and "let God"!

I think too that relating to God the Father also depends on our earthly fathers.  Did they let us down?  Did they fail us?  Did they scare us?  Did they harm us?  Did they do a great job as a dad?  My dad was weak, but he was a funny man who, for some reason had absolutely no self-esteem and he slowly but surely destroyed his relationships with others and ultimately he destroyed himself.

I grew up in a non-Christian home and I don't recall having any Christian family at all.  My Mom dropped me off at church every Sunday and it is because of that, that I finally came to call God my Father, Jesus my Saviour.  And because I had no "Christian" influence I think my understanding of God was of the New Testament.  The God of the Old Testament was to me a distant disciplinarian, A God that took no nonsense.

BUT.... This is so not true.  God is patient!  He put up with so much nonsense from His people.  He gave them so many chances.  Not only that, after He disciplined them, He restored them.  The more I read the Old Testament the more I know my God, my Father, my Salvation, loves me.  He loves me so much He cares about every little thing I care about.  He cares enough about me that He extends grace that I don't deserve.  Mercy that I don't deserve.  He gave His only Son for me!  For you!  How can I not know His gentleness and grace and love for me?

This is what I felt the other morning and I felt so warm, so grateful and it renewed how I was looking at myself and how I was looking at others around me!

My encouragement to you today is focus on your relationship with God and He will touch your heart and repair and restore your soul and you will be able to walk forward day by day in your human relationships.
Ps 5 v 3:  My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Please...Don't...Fear....

I feel so strongly this morning to encourage someone.  I don't know who but God does so this is for you.

Isaiah 41 v 10:  "Fear not, for I am with you;  Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Okay, now speak that out loud, and put your name in there.  I will put mine in so you get the flow of it....

Fear not Tracy, for I am with you.  Be not dismayed Tracy, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you Tracy, Yes, I will help you Tracy, I will uphold you Tracy, with My righteous right hand.

Now, you do it with your name.

God is for you!  And fear is not from Him.  So if you fear, stop a moment, remind yourself that God does not instil fear!  Tell yourself that even though you don't know what is happening down the road, God does, and you will walk one brave step at a time, knowing He sees the bigger picture and has your heart and its desires in His heart!

Just to re-iterate:  Isaiah 41 v 13:  For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, "fear not, I will help you."
  • Trust
  • Walk one step forward at a time
  • replace thoughts of fear with words of God
  • YOU CAN DO THIS, because He is your strength
God bless

Discouraged?

I saw this image on one of my niece's profiles and it resonated with me so I thought I would share it with you and encourage you that no matter where you feel you are today, in the dumps, sad and frustrated, or flying as high as a flag with joy and peace, know that God is always with you and His heart is always for you.

We don't always see why we go through what we go through.  Sometimes its so God would have us sink our roots down deeper into His living water, His word!  Sometimes its to correct us!  Sometimes its to protect us and divert us from trouble ahead that only He can see.  The thing is to trust that whatever you are going through, He is there, He does care, and He cries with you.

Duet 31 v 6:  "Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them;  for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you."

Duet 31 v 8:  "And the Lord, He is the one who goes before you.  He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you;  do not fear nor be dismayed."

Double dose of the word just for reinforcement!  :)

God bless and be encouraged today friends

Winsome Wednesday - What is the condition of your Walls?

My hubby and I had a conversation about walls the other day.  We read a devotional that mentioned the walls and how God got His people to rebuild them.  From my husband's perspective, he felt God was saying he was to build something which falls in line with his plans and dreams.  I felt that the Lord was saying that we need to repair the walls of our lives, our hearts, our spiritual walk.
  1. What condition are they in?
  2. Crumbling?
  3. Big gaping holes?
  4. Cracks?
  5. Plaster falling off?
The only way to repair our walls is to spend time in God's word, to give Him praise, to be content with what the Lord has allowed or not allowed in our lives!  Give thanks, give praise!

The thing is, we need to do all these things while our walls are in disrepair!  We cannot wait for all to be "right" because that is just never going to happen.  And its in the praising, worshipping, being thankful, being content.  Its in this state that the Lord starts the work.

Phil 1 v 6:  And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Prov 25 v 28:  He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

With our walls in disrepair we are weakened and more susceptible to attack and lies.  So my encouragement to you is to start working on those walls.  God is amazing in that He wants you to focus on Him, and He does all the work.

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Perspective on Tough Stuff

What is your perspective on the tough stuff?  I suppose the answer to that is "It depends where we are in a tough situation.  Just starting out?  In the middle of a storm?  Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel?"

Well I can tell you from my own experience that the tough stuff is not for fun, that is for sure.  Neither is it for no reason, although we mere mortals, this side of heaven, will not necessarily understand why.  One thing I am sure of is that God does not let us go through things to hurt us for His pleasure or because He is bored.  He does it because He wants to save us.

From what you ask?
  • Well, sometimes from ourselves, right?  He knows what lies ahead on the road we travel and He is preparing us so we can cope, survive,
  • To help others who are going through things we have been through,
  • make it to everlasting life with Him,
  • To keep our eyes on Him and not on the world and its solutions.
Honestly, only He knows why He allows the tough stuff in our lives.  Although, there are times I look back and see that without a tough time in my life I may have gone a different, maybe seriously bad, path and He was diverting me back to His way.  God would rather hurt you, to modify your path, than lose you.  Does that make sense?

One thing I have learnt is that I would rather go through the tough stuff WITH Him than WITHOUT Him.

My encouragement to you in the storm is don't give up, God is walking this path with you and He knows you hurt, but He has allowed it because He loves you and knows you better than you know yourself.
1 Corinth 5 v 5:  You are to deliver this man over to satan for physical discipline, that his spirit may yet be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.  All I can say to this scripture is... "Ouch!"  But in terms of eternity, all one can say is "Amen!"  Thus, God is rough with the flesh to save the soul!

God bless

May Mercy....

I read this scripture the other day:
Jude 1 v 2:  May mercy, [soul] peace, and love be multiplied to you.

Isn't that beautiful?  Yes, I pray that God's mercy - undeserved, His grace - unmerited, His peace - complete and other worldly, be multiplied to you.  Maybe we should take that a step forward and try practice to offer grace, mercy, peace-keeping and loving to others.  Imagine what the world would be like.

Well, maybe we cannot change the world, but we can change the atmosphere around us.  That is my challenge for myself this week.  I am going to try more consciously to be merciful and gracious, loving and peace-seeking!  What an awesome way to sow today.

And we know that what we sow today, we don't necessarily reap today, but the Word is true and it says we WILL reap what we sow in DUE time.
Gal 6 v 9:  And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.

My encouragement to you is to offer to others the behaviour and attitude that you would want from others.  I know its not easy and I fail daily.  Thus I am so grateful that God's mercies are new everyday. (Lam 3v22-23)

God bless
Tracy
