I hereby Challenge myself....

One thing I know about myself is that when I spend time in the word I handle things better.  Day to day stuff is manageable, people don't wind me up so much, same with the traffic.  You would think that I would start each day with the word!!!  I should!!!

But I don't!  I tell myself every night when I go to bed that tomorrow I will get up earlier to start the day with the Lord!  Tomorrow I will beat the dogs up and get into the word!  But seriously... its becoming winter here and I have excuses the length of my arm, why I should, in fact, stay put in my bed!  None of them are good enough excuses though.

So Sunday night I set myself a challenge:
  • for this week I will wake up an hour earlier
  • Make a cup of tea
  • Open my bible and get on with it!!!!

So ladies I challenge you today, What is it that you need to do?  What is it you want to change?  Start with one step!  When you have overcome that one, go on to the next.  For me, step one is to GET UP EARLY already!!!!

Psalm 5 v 3:  My voice shall You hear in the morning, O Lord, in the morning will I direct my prayer unto You, and will look up.

Psalm 143 v 8:  Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning;  For I trust in You;  Teach me the way in which I should walk;  For to You I lift up my soul.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - The Emotions, I mean... Psalms!

You know what I love about the Psalms?  They reflect David (mainly) in many states of emotion.  He shows his joy in the Lord, he shows his frustration, hurt, depression, great love for God, his passion for truth and God's word.... He really lets it all out in Psalms.  And God called David a man after His Own heart!

This gives me hope!   It shows me David was real.  Real with his emotions.  Real with how he felt.  Sometimes my emotions are such a roller-coaster ride.  Wake up joyful, depressed and hour later, peaceful the next, followed by frustration.  Sigh....

A myriad of emotions!

I do believe as we grow in the Lord, the roller-coaster does even out, but I also believe as we strengthen, sometimes tougher stuff is placed in our path because God knows we have grown some and tough stuff is His way of keeping us close to Him.

Reading the Psalms makes me feel like David is a kindred spirit!  One who has been there and done that!  No matter how much David messed up at times he always turned back to God.  That is my goal!  To always keep close to God no matter how badly I stuff up!!!

Ps 30 v 8 - 12:  I cried out to You, O Lord; and to the Lord I made supplication:  (9) What profit is there in my blood when I go down to the pit?  Will the dust praise You?  Will it declare Your truth?  (10) Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!  (11) You have turned for me my morning into dancing;  you have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, (12) To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.  O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever! (see?  emotional roller coaster!)

My encouragement to you today is to know that no matter your emotion, God understands it and He remains truthful and loving and available to, and for you.

God bless
Tracy

Any doubts about the Word?

I heard a pastor Sunday morning say that he does not measure the bible by other books/writings etc!  No, he measures other literature against the bible.

This thought has stuck with me through the day because the Word is our manual.  Our guide map, given to us by an Almighty God Who wants to help us succeed in all He has for us.  If anything else you read, or watch, does not line up with the Word, then go with the Word.

Why?
2 Tim 3 v 16-17:  All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,  (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

There are many scriptures that tell us not to take away from or add to the Word:

Duet 4 v 2:  You shall not add to the word which I command you, not take anything from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command.

Prov 30 v 5-6:  Every word of God is pure;  He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.  (6) Do not add to His words, Lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

Psm 119 v 160:  The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgements endures for ever.

Rev 22 v 18-19:  For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:  If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;  (19) and if anyone takes away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The point I am trying to make is that no matter the circumstance, no matter the problem, the Bible, God's inspired Word is the answer.  I say "IS" the answer instead of "HAS" the answer because I know what it is like to go and read the word and find... well, nothing helpful.  But I think it is more in the reading of God's word in obedience that God sends the solution, or the way forward, for us.  He opens our eyes to see and our ears to hear, when we reach for His word in obedience.

My encouragement to you is to keep reading the Word.  You will find peace, revelation, restoration, love, reproof, encouragement, in the pages of God's Word.  He wrote it for you because He loves you.  It is a tool for you to LIVE!

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Joy!

I found this picture on Pinterest and when I saw it I just loved it!  Apart from the fact that it kind of catches your attention, the truth of the words just get me in my chest!

Yes, we can choose JOY today!  No matter what we are going through, no matter what anxiety surrounds us, no matter the circumstance, the Word says we can experience God's joy in the midst of it.

BUT.... it is not a "feeling" nor an "emotion".  It is an act of our wills to accept God's joy in our lives by leaving all our worries at His feet.  I sometimes wonder how does one do that?  It seems impossible.  The only way I can explain it, is, its that point you get to when you know nothing else can be done, there is nothing more you can add or subtract to change something, and you release it and give it to God.  You find yourself in peace.  This is the place I want to get to, long before there are no more steps to be taken.  And that place is a choice.  I pray today that you experience the Lord's joy in your life today.  He loves you passionately!

Romans 15 v 13:  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God bless
Tracy

God Remains the Same!

The other day my daughter made me so angry!  I threatened to ground her!  But at the end of the day, I thought through my anger and went and did what she wanted/needed me to do anyway.  I was angry with her because I felt that which made me a mom to her was being challenged and my hurt heart wanted to lash out and NOT do what she wanted/needed me to do!

So, as we moms do, I did what was needed to be done.  The next day at church the pastor spoke on how, even though we are unfaithful, or even though we mess up, God remains faithful to us.  God's love and behaviour is not determined by our faithfulness or lack thereof.

My daughter being belligerent, and the pastor's words of the next day, really spoke into the situation we find ourselves in.  We have been attacked and maligned and lied about and as this situation comes to a close in our lives I fear that my actions over the past 5 1/2 years will influence God in how He allows things to pan out!

Well, that is just a load of rubbish Tracy.  Seriously, what am I saying about God?  Besides the ton of scriptures the Lord has opened my eyes up to I am making a statement with my fears that God is influenced by my good or bad behaviour.  God is NOT!  HE REMAINS THE SAME.  HE LOVES US DESPITE OURSELVES AND WHAT HE WANTS TO HAVE HAPPEN, WILL, DESPITE HOW WE GET IN THE WAY!

2 Tim 2v13 says:  If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself!

Did you read that?  God has to remain true to Himself, to His word!

  • God has told us that that which someone means for our harm He will use for our good (Gen 50v20)
  • The hole that a man tries to dig for you, he himself will fall into (Prov 26v27)
  • All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord (Rom 8v28)
  • They will know you by your fruits (Matt 7 v 17-18)
  • Stand still and see how I fight the battle for you, and give you the victory (2 Chron 20v17)
And there are many more scriptures.... God has given us these scriptures!  So, though I may have lost my cool often and raged, though I may have said a wrong word at a wrong time, though my faith was incredibly fragile often, and I feared the worst often.... God will still do what God said He would do.

Stand firm with childlike faith!

My encouragement to you is to stand firm on God's word for you, daily come before Him and clear the slate and trust that He is not like us, fickle and weak!  No, He is strong and true and FAITHFUL no matter what!

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Look for Blessings!

I have determined lately to look for blessings wherever I can.  Its really hard when you are facing tough stuff but when you do start looking for those blessings God places in your path everyday, your perspective changes.

One blessing that I really appreciate right now is in our new car.  Yes, yes, the new car is a huge blessing too :)  But its the fact that I can connect my ipod and listen to my praise music that is REALLY the blessing I see.  I am so excited just to go to the shop for milk so I can blast my praise music as loud as my ears will allow.   I have in the past, but being that it is my ipod, the selection is so much bigger and I have access to ALL my music.

Psalm 27 v 6(b):...Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;  I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Another blessing I found is seeing a beautiful sunrise in my rear-view mirror.  How cool is that?  So beautiful!  Its amazing how much differently one sees the world when you look for the good and the beauty.  All God's gifts and blessings to us.  Why?  Because He loves us!

What is the blessing you see in your world today?

God bless
Tracy

That Storm is OVER!

Well, at least I am trusting its over.  The worst of it is.  I no longer have to fear going to court!  That is done and dusted.  God was with us every step of the way.  Now we wait up to 8 months for a judge's decision.  But for me, I trust for an outcome that gives God the glory!  That is what I want.

Its taking a bit of time but I am exhaling!  I am unwinding.  It has been a long journey.  Much damage has been done in the family but I have given up trying to fix that (see a problem in that sentence?)  I am leaving those who seem to have a blindness in this whole thing to the Lord.  He will open their eyes when He wants to.

But as for me.... I am moving on.  I am letting go.  I am getting on with my life!  Phil 3 v 13:  Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.

To be honest I am petrified of what lies ahead.  I suppose that is why God encourages us to take one day at a time.  Matt 6 v 34:  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

I am, however, trusting the Lord for a period of peace.  A period of soaking and growing in His word.  A period of time to absorb His love.

My encouragement to you is to know the God loves you so much that He hurts when you hurt and He will give you rest when you need it.

God bless
Tracy
