Winsome Wednesday - Where do you want to dwell?

Psalm 27 v 4:  One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require:  that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

Where do you want to dwell?  In the house of the Lord or........?
Food for thought

God bless

Constant Onslaught?

The other day I was just overwhelmed!  I had had enough!!!  I mean really.... what next?  With this whole family saga going on, some dude arrives at my gate with a long overdue speed fine we never received because it was mailed incorrectly and I totally freaked out over-reacted!

Then, Friday night, I'm lying awake in bed, thanking the Lord that the day ended better than it started and my phone starts beeping.  I'm thinking (at 11.17pm at night) it must be important.  Before I get my hands on the phone it beeps again, by the time I have phoned my credit card company and cancelled my card urgently, 13 purchases have been made off my card IN BRAZIL!!!!  In 10 minutes!!!!  I'm in South Africa!  Soooo not amused!

But I handle this event a little better because since the speed fine incident I have heard a pastor say that sometimes Christians face an onslaught of persecution!  One thing happens, then the next and the next and the next and .....  And the pastor says the reason for this is the devil is trying to divert your attention from God's promises.  The devil is trying to get you so upset and so worked up and he tries to get your focus off the Lord and His word.

This man said something along these lines, "Stand firm, God is not finished with you, He is giving you favour, blessings abundant.  Stay focused on the promises in His word.  And remember too that God will save you from ALL you are going through."

The promise:  Ps 34 v 19:  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
and:
Ex 3 v7-8: (paraphrased):  And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of My people... for I know their sorrows and sufferings and trials. (8) And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand and power of the Egyptians, and bring them to a land of milk and honey.

  1. God sees and knows
  2. He comes to deliver us out of ALL our afflictions
  3. He brings His people into favour!

Constant onslaught?  Worry not!  God will save you out of them ALL!  Just stay focused on God's promises for you in your life!

God bless

Winsome Wednesday - Inner peace with your decision?

Two weeks back we made a decision to push through!  To stick it out!  To trust in the word we have read!  To trust in the word given to us by other Godly people!  We decided to ignore the worldly advice given to us.  We decided to choose God's way (as we perceived it) over the world's way!  And I truly believe we have made the right choice.  Seriously, when is it ever not a good idea to choose God's way? :)

And since then, we have received more word, more encouragement, more confirmation.... that we have chosen correctly.

My encouragement to you is to trust that inner voice inside of you.  The one you have tempered with the Word of the Lord, the one where God gives you an inner peace that sometimes just does not make sense.  Trust that the Lord is guiding you with His peace.

This is one of the great things we read last week that make us believe we have chosen God's way.  It is an excerpt from the book "God Calling" by the Two Listeners:

"Near the Goal
In a race it is not the start that hurts, not the even pace of the long stretch.  It is when the goal is in sight that heart and nerves and courage and muscles are strained almost beyond human endurance, almost to breaking point.
So with you now the goal is in sight, you need your final cry to Me (God).  Can you not see by the nerve and heart rack of the past few days that your race is nearly run.  Courage, courage.  Heed My voice of encouragement.  Remember that I am by your side, spurring you on to victory...."

It goes on to say how many have given up the race just before it was to be won.  We don't want to be one of those people.  We want to have victory in Christ!  My encouragement to you, is hang in there!  The race has an end!  The goal will be in sight.  And if you push through, the victory you have in Christ will be very very sweet.  Because you would have overcome in Christ!  Remember then, to give God the glory!

Ps 29 v 11:  The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

God bless
Tracy

My Scripture for 2013

I know its already February but I wanted to update my Scripture for the year.  And it seems that God is testing my ability to trust.  Thus my word for 2013 is "TRUST".  So in line with that my scripture is also about trust!

Here it is:
Numbers 23 v 19:  God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind.  Does He speak and not act?  Does He promise and not fulfill?

Scary stuff trusting God for the big things right?!  But God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and He will do as He has said He will do.  Because I don't get what I want or what I anticipate, does not make God a liar.  No, it just makes me impatient, untrusting, a plain old scaredy cat!  The problem folks, lies with me!!!!

So, today I declare, "Lord, I trust you, no matter what the circumstances look like!"

Do you have a scripture for the year?  What is it and why does it mean so much to you?  I look forward to hearing from you.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Worldly Wisdom?

A while back someone made a judgement on my husband and I without hearing two sides of an event.  He judged us by the word of one man whose jealousy has unfortunately got the better of him.  He stated that biblically he did not have to have anything to do with us until we made right with this person.

I was angry because we had done nothing to this person. And I told him that even a judge hears both sides of a story before making a judgement.

Last week, a judge put us in a position where, having heard one side of a story (not ours), she instructed both parties, for the sake of the family, that both parties should settle!  She had not even heard our side of the story!  I WAS LIVID!  I WAS BROKEN!  I WANTED GOOD OLD TESTAMENT VENGEANCE!

After thinking it through and removing emotion from our decision making, we decided that this was not the route God was sending us on.  We are not settling. This for us is about pushing through.  Trusting Him and all the scripture and word He has given us!  In fact the judge's words were wrong.  This is in fact causing vindication and restoration in the family.  True colours are being shown.  Truth is being revealed!

So what is my point?  A judge, who has much wisdom and much experience in such matters, is not the person upon which to make decisions with regards to your spiritual walk.  An advocate and lawyer too have great knowledge in things of the law.  But if you are seeking to do things God's way, and you do not have peace in your heart about what people are advising you to do, DON'T DO IT!  Do what you feel God is leading you to do.  He has said that He will give you His peace.  John 14 v 27:  Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

This is what I am standing on in this circumstance and any other where others offer worldly advice:  Ps 20 v 7:  Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;  But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

My encouragement to you is let your conscience, led by the Lord and His word, guide you.  Let His peace guide you and not the wisdom of the world.

God bless
Tracy

Walking around Jericho!

Isn't it frustrating when God doesn't do something the way you thought He would do it?  I have been so excited for this event to take place in our lives so that it can come to an end.  But, God's thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55 v 8).  Sigh....

Having said that, I know what it is that God expects of me.  He expects me to:

  • KNOW that He has a plan and purpose for me in this (Jer 29v11)
  • PRAISE Him all the time, no matter the circumstances (Ps 34v1:  I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise will continually be in my mouth)
  • TRUST His word that He has given to us in this circumstance (Isaiah 55v11(a): So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not return to Me void)
  • REJOICE, praise, thank Him, and (Phil 4v4)
  • seek to be OBEDIENT in all things.(Duet 30v10)
I keep having 2 pictures in my head.  The first is of walking around the walls of Jericho.  I feel like the Lord is saying, "Do it in faith.  Trust Me that those walls are coming down."

The second picture is of a lion's den.  There seem to be more and more lions added to the den.  And I feel God is saying, "Fear not, for I keep their mouths shut and remember Daniel's visit to the den and how it ended."

Yes, walking continuously around big obtrusive walls past which you cannot see is not fun.  Its exhausting.  Its frightening, its frustrating.  But with faith I will keep on keeping on because God does not lie, and He loves His own.

What are the walls in your life?  Don't give up hope!  God will crush those walls when the time is right.  His way for us is way better than anything we can imagine for ourselves.  My encouragement to you is to keep on keeping on, KNOWING, PRAISING, TRUSTING, REJOICING!  For in due time, the walls will come down.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Word Wise!

This week I am hanging onto the word with everything that is in me.  I am REMINDING myself of what God has said to me in my situation.  Friends, family, and bloggers I consider to be both (friends and family) have been sending me AWESOME scriptures and I have been receiving much prayer!  You all are amazing.

Image from flickr.com

So, at this point, I am adding to my list of finger-clutching, hanging on with all my might, scripture.  I pray it blesses you as much as it blesses me:
  • Matt 9 v 28-29:  When He reached the house and went in, the blind men came to Him, and Jesus said to them, Do you believe that I am able to do this?  They said to Him, Yes, Lord.  (29) Then He touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith and trust and reliance [on the power invested in Me] be it done to you. WOW, thank you M for this scripture.  Kind of hit me in the heart!
  • Mark 5 v 36:  Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing.  Another great one M.
  • Heb 4 v 13:  And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.  Yes, God sees EVERYTHING.  Thanks for that reminder Sonja.
  • Exodus 14 v 14:  The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.  Thank you for this reminder Chelle.
A fellow blogger (Hazel) reminded me that if our spiritual eyes could see, we would see a great army around us, to protect us, comfort us and guide us.  These are snippets of how God is showing me He is with me in this.

So, my fellow bloggers, friends and family, be encouraged today to know God has got your back!

God bless
Tracy

Reminder to Self....

I am expecting this week to be tough!  Tough only if my focus gets hazy and I don't look up.  Look up to my Lord and Saviour.  The One who cares for me, the One who lifts me when I fall.  The One I need desperately this week.

So, today I am posting reminders to myself, and to anyone else out there who needs to hear this:
  • John 15 v 8:  By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;  so you will be My disciples.  Continue to do good, continue to walk the path God has chosen for you because others WILL know you by your fruit.
  • Gen 50 v 20:  But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good....  No matter what harm someone intends for you, God will use it for your good.
  • Rom 10 v 11:  For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."  Therein lies the answer, BELIEVE
  • Prov 26 v 27:  Whoever digs a pit [for another man's feet] will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone [up a height to do mischief], will have it roll back on him.  That what someone tries to do to you, to harm you, will happen to them.
  • Neh 8 v 10:  Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord.  Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."  Be joyful, relax, despite what it looks like outside there.  His joy, my strength....
  • Num 23 v 19:  God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.  Has He said, and will He not do it?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?  If God said it, I must believe it for He is not a liar.
  • Isa 55 v 11:  So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.  God's word is not just words on paper, it is truth and it will be done as it is written for He says it is so.
The thing is this, if God says it, I believe it!  And it really is that simple.  There are so many examples in the bible of people, ordinary sinful people, who failed, who were not perfect, who chose to believe God's word and because of it, He lifted them up, He saved them, He did to them as His word says He would.  This is true too for those who choose not to obey or trust His word.

I want to be one who believes.....

God bless
Tracy

ps:  To those of you who have been praying for me and my family, I want to say firstly, thank you.  And Secondly, God is going to come through in a BIG way and I cannot wait to share a praise report with you.
