Capture the Lie - Replace it with the Truth...

Do you ever find you are feeling negative and you feed into it?  Do you talk to yourself and have conversations with those thoughts in your mind?  Do you find yourself getting more and more depressed and negative?  Eventually, for me, I end up having a pity party, attendance 1!

Finally, I realize I need to read the word and slowly but surely the pity party ends and the sun seems brighter, things don't seem as bad as they did the day before and even if things are really really tough, I start to feel hope.

Now the point here is twofold.
  1. Listening to the lies in my head lead to, well.... no where but down and out and depressed
  2. Not immediately capturing that thought, identifying it, and replacing it with God's truth, well, leads to destruction and its all downhill from there...
Recently I was feeling very negative about a situation and even went so far as to vent on a friend's shoulder and thankfully she is God-sent and guided me to hold those thoughts captive!  And replace it with God's truth.  I told her that even though I would encourage someone else to do the same thing, I felt I was in a space where I would not know where to even start to do things God's way.  See how the evil one confuses you?  Eventually I prayed and told the Lord, "even if I don't know how to go about this, I know that reading the Word is the first step and Your Word Lord is alive and it will start making changes in me."
  • So you start small
  • You start with one lie YOU KNOW IS A LIE!
  • You seek the answer, the truth, in God's word!

For example, the lie that gets me often is that I am not worthy.  Worthy of being treated right, worthy of being helped, worthy of whatever.... But that is not the truth!!!! I am worthy because of the blood of the Lamb, worthy because I am a child of the Lord, worthy because He chose me, He saved me, He is my righteousness.  The word says so.  I have started a Lie/Truth journal so I can come back to it.  To write something down is a way of learning for me so it kind of gets in my head (finally).

The point is, find a way of getting the truth into your head and re-record over the lie!
  • Identify it,
  • replace it with truth,
  • keep that truth nearby for when you are weak and the evil one tries to remind you of this lie!
2 Corinth 10 v 5:  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

I encourage you to not let those lies grow in your mind.  Capture them and replace them with the truth, God's truth.

God bless
Tracy

  1. Oh Tracy; I am so often guilty of thinking (and yes talking to myself!) negative thoughts, and deep down they really do have to do with pride and worthiness. Thanks for sharing this very dear and near to home truth dear friend; we do need to capture them and replace them with God's truth!

    Blessings and bunches of hugs!

  2. So often the *committee in my head* is all about lies - and I all too often listen.

May the Holy Spirit be strong in me, and may He always bring the Truth forward in my thoughts.

    GOD BLESS!

  4. Great idea to keep a lie/truth journal. That will be especially helpful for when I'm listening to the lies, you know? God's word always brings encouragement and He is the one to believe because He always speaks the truth!

    Blessings, Joan

  5. Thank you for sharing your awesome story on catching the lie. When I discoveres WHO I AM IN Christ Jesus, my life changed. Here are some sites that offer excellent scriptures: You may need to copy and paste somewhere and keep it for referrence. I love to refer back to something so helpful to me.
