Well I can tell you from my own experience that the tough stuff is not for fun, that is for sure. Neither is it for no reason, although we mere mortals, this side of heaven, will not necessarily understand why. One thing I am sure of is that God does not let us go through things to hurt us for His pleasure or because He is bored. He does it because He wants to save us.
From what you ask?
- Well, sometimes from ourselves, right? He knows what lies ahead on the road we travel and He is preparing us so we can cope, survive,
- To help others who are going through things we have been through,
- make it to everlasting life with Him,
- To keep our eyes on Him and not on the world and its solutions.
One thing I have learnt is that I would rather go through the tough stuff WITH Him than WITHOUT Him.
My encouragement to you in the storm is don't give up, God is walking this path with you and He knows you hurt, but He has allowed it because He loves you and knows you better than you know yourself.
1 Corinth 5 v 5: You are to deliver this man over to satan for physical discipline, that his spirit may yet be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. All I can say to this scripture is... "Ouch!" But in terms of eternity, all one can say is "Amen!" Thus, God is rough with the flesh to save the soul!
