Winsome Wednesday - The Word is Powerful!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

 Do you ever read the Word and wonder if your time could've been better spent?  Like you didn't get anything out of it?  I sometimes do, but I remind myself that reading God's word, whether I get something out of it or not, is obedience!  And God honours and rewards obedience.

Haven't you read something, a verse, a chapter, and it... well, meant nothing?  But then years later you read the same scripture and its "WOW" I never knew that!  I never SAW that!!!  That is where the daily digging in His word eventually rewards you with an understanding when you need it.

I was reading these verses the other day and it hit me between the eyes how powerful and rich God's word is:
Psalm 19 v 7 - 11:

  • (7) The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
  • The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
  • (8) The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
  • The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
  • (9) The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
  • The judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
  • (10) More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold;
  • Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
  • (11) Moreover by them Your servant is warned
  • and in keeping them there is great reward.

Wow!  Power!  My encouragement to you is to read the word whenever you can and remember that as you do, it is sinking into your very being and tweaking your understanding for a time when you really need it.

God bless
Tracy

  1. Hi Tracy,
    Sometimes I do not know what to make of God's word, but I always think of this old lady who always reads the Bible, and even if she does not understand the passage, she feels that she is "washed" by God's word and so she does it every day! Patsy from

  2. Oh I love this Tracy! This happens often; my Bible is so marked up, and it always amazes me when I read a verse that I didn't have hi-lighted....how did I miss it over the years? :) I think as we grow and mature, God's Word becomes more clear, and we listen and understand more to what He has to say! :)

    Lots of love my friend; have a week of joy!

  4. Tracy, YES! This has been my struggle lately and it's been a difficult couple of months of trying to stay focused in His Word and not giving up that daily time with Him. Your words were encouragement I needed.
    Thank you.
    Blessings,
    Beth

  7. Amen, Tracy. We read the Bible and pray out of obedience even when we aren't "in the mood." But the Word never returns void. I love Psalm 19 and love you image of the rock. Thanks!

  8. I am teaching VBS this week and nothing has made me realize the power of scripture like hearing it from the mouths of children.

  9. There are times I go into the Word,looking for "something" - and feel disappointed because it didn't "hit the spot" - but I'm learning that it is something that I will need later and to pay attention, don't be disappointed - that God knows what I need when I need:) Insightful post, Tracy:)

  10. Amen. ANd Psalm 19 AND 119 are such great challenges to remind us of the blessing and power that come from His Word!

  11. God's word never comes back empty! What we read in it today may be for today...but then again, it may be for tomorrow. But, we can count on it always being true and helpful! I also like to look at reading His word like having daily communication with Him. I know my time is never wasted there! Thanks for posting the great verses!

    Blessings, Joan

  12. I do really think it is quite magnificent that his word, even when it feels void, never is. How he can minister to you with words you have read over and over.

  15. So true. The WORD reminds us that obedience is better than sacrifice. Reading His Word has to become practice - whether we feel like it or not.

  16. I just so appreciate it when we can see the power in His word. And when we can encourage others to dig. Sometimes we just need to give someone a shovel. I am enjoying your post and I can only imagine what it is like to live in Africa. I live in Colorado and it has been a rough few years with the drought. We are being stretched. May you be blessed in all you set your hand to.
