But I don't! I tell myself every night when I go to bed that tomorrow I will get up earlier to start the day with the Lord! Tomorrow I will beat the dogs up and get into the word! But seriously... its becoming winter here and I have excuses the length of my arm, why I should, in fact, stay put in my bed! None of them are good enough excuses though.
So Sunday night I set myself a challenge:
- for this week I will wake up an hour earlier
- Make a cup of tea
- Open my bible and get on with it!!!!
So ladies I challenge you today, What is it that you need to do? What is it you want to change? Start with one step! When you have overcome that one, go on to the next. For me, step one is to GET UP EARLY already!!!!
Psalm 5 v 3: My voice shall You hear in the morning, O Lord, in the morning will I direct my prayer unto You, and will look up.
Psalm 143 v 8: Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.
God bless

I so desperately need to do the same thing - just get into the Word, absorb it. I know when I do that, it changes everything, that God's grace and wisdom somehow pours out of my mouth that day. I'm going now to get started, thanks so much for this reminder. Hugs ~ Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, so true what you say and it is my constant challenge to spend more time in His word
DeleteThank you
God bless
I've had similar aim Tracy because may day goes much smoother when I allow myself time soak in the Word. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda, so true, even if there are bumps in the road, I handle things better. Its so worth it right?!

I crave my Mondays and Fridays where I don't rush off to work because it's my sacred times with God. Today there is a fog delay and the kids are late in going out the door - so I got up early to have time with Him. It is like no other - praying for you as you wake up that extra hour earlier, may He meet you with sweet boldness, power, and grace.
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda, its in the doing that one is blessed. This is the part where I am challenging myself, to get (up) and out of my comfort zone (my bed) and be blessed by His word :)

I am not a morning person, more of a "snooze" person. I , too, have a hard time getting up early. Shameful on my part I know, but I will take this challenge along with you!!! His word is after all our foundation :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Stacey
Hi Stacey, I always thought of myself as a morning person, but as I age I think that is changing to "mid" morning person, lol

We all can get in our daily ruts and forsake our time with God. It is something we have to purpose in our hearts to do(even though it should be a part of our EVERYDAY lives, since He is our Sustainer), but life happens. It's not a good enough excuse, but nevertheless, it happens. Thank you for the reminder Tracy, for when we start our day off with Him...EVERYTHING in our day goes so much smoother. Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteHi Michell, it most certainly is an act of our will. One which the Lord richly rewards. Thank you too Michell :)

Hhhhmmm, I hereby challenge myself to pray before I read in the morning... otherwise I get too distracted!
ReplyDeleteHi Marja - I know what you mean, lol
DeleteGreat to hear from you my friend

OK, the one thing that I need to challenge myself with is walking! I'm not doing any regular exercise, and some of the weight that I so diligently lost a few years ago is sneaking back. (I HATE TIGHT JEANS!)
ReplyDeleteSo, literally, I need to take the first step!
It occurs to me that walking would also be a good time to do some talking with the Lord, too!
GOD BLESS!
Hi Sharon, I so agree, time on the treadmill is definitely worship time. I too need to "move" more

Tracy, I love your honesty here.
ReplyDeleteHaving a morning Bible reading habit is a struggle for many of us. But it is so good to have a heart that yearns for it, to know the Lord better and to have the discipline of starting the day with Him. I pray that where the spirit is willing but the body is weak you have God's strength to help you.
I am quite a morning person and do manage to have a morning quiet time at least 50% of the time. However, for me one of the biggest battles is chronic sinusitis. When I have the brain fog that comes with this problem it makes me less willing to read my Bible excusing myself as being unable to focus.
The devil uses these weaknesses to try to separate us from God. However, it's great that we can come to God just as we are. Tired, sleepy, drowsy - He just wants to be with us.

Hi Mel, I know what you mean. There is always something that wants to stop us spending time in the Lord's word. Great encouragement for me here, thank you

I gave up! I read my Bible at night, and devotionals in the morning. The last time I asked the Lord to wake me up at 5:30 so I could pray and read my Bible and he did - - - I rolled over and said, 'I was just kidding." :-) I think God knows me better than I do myself. Thank you for sharing at Tell Me A Story."
ReplyDeleteHi Hazel, I love that! haha, I often feel guilty that I have let the Lord down when I fail at such a challenge but you remind me that God truly knows us and knows that we try and fail and loves us anyway.

This is SUCH a great post! I need to really invest more time in the Word myself...but I do know (and so does God!) that mornings will never ever ever be the time for me! I stay up late doing blog work- and what I really need to do is turn it off and go sit down on the couch and open His Word- even for a mere ten minutes for crying out loud! It's awful how we don't prioritize our Lord and Savior better. I stand convicted.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, I agree with you in that it is not the time of day that matters, but the making of the time itself. We are all guilty no doubt. Lol, I so understand the difficulty in getting away from blogging!

Right now, I am pretty good with having my quiet time, but when my schedule changes, I, too, have to do a new thing. Can't wait to see the result of your challenge!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, it is about adapting sometimes isnt it? I'm not too good at adapting, a creature of habit am I, some bad one too though. Time to replace the old habits with some good. Challenge is um... challenging :)

ReplyDeleteHi Judith, thank you for the encouragement. It is about growing right?!

So, how did you do?
ReplyDeleteHi Ren, well.... um.... let us say it is an ongoing challenge. I did better this week although truth be told i did not get up earlier, but i did make time for the word :)

I hope this week went well with your goal! You are right, it is by making small changes and steps that makes us more successful at accomplishing our goals.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon, it did go better, but there is MUCH room for improvement :) But yes, one step at a time, one change at a time and I will grow
