HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Welcome 2014!  I am trusting for good things this year.  I am excited about what the Lord is going to do.  This time last year I was fearful of the year ahead and the Lord WOW'd me right out of my socks!  He over and abundantly showered us with grace and mercy and favour.  I am so humbled and grateful and so excited about this year.  Did I say that already?

I want you to get excited with me.  Because no matter how bad things might look, God is in control.  He will give you victory, He will fight your battle.  He will win for you!  You are His and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

I have decided that I am going to face this year with more faith and more blind trust and JOY.  I want to turn to that attitude long before I run out of options.  I want this year to be one full of inner peace and JOY!  Yes, I will not allow my JOY to be stolen this year (I'll try anyway).  I know that most times I allow my JOY to be stolen.  This year I am going to practice JOY!  I am going to hold onto JOY!  I want others to see me and sense JOY inside me!  Yes, JOY JOY JOY!

Psalm 5 v 11:  But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice;  let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them;  let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits.

I am not foolish enough to believe all will be roses and sunshine.  But I am choosing the JOY of the Lord this year.  I am choosing to be more thankful and praise the Lord more, and see good in others more than I normally do.  I CHOOSE JOY!

Choose JOY with me!  Let us rejoice in the Lord and be glad.
{Can you guess my word for this year?}

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - The Day of Battle!

When we are preparing to fight a battle, be it in the home, the office, a relationship, whatever it is, we obviously need to prepare.  We need to pray, we need to seek advice, we need to read God's word.  Yes, we need to prepare.

But ultimately it is God who will deliver us and it is God who will fight the battle AND give us victory.  All He wants in return is the glory.  There are many examples of this in the word, and each one of us, in our lives.  Sometimes things seem hopeless and I think God allows that so we know when we get the victory, when we win the battle, it is GOD who fought and won the battle.  Not us in our strength.  I think He allows this sometimes so we cannot take the credit.  The credit IS HIS FOR THE TAKING!

Prov 21 v 31:  The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance and victory are of the Lord.

So, my encouragement to you is to do all you can to prepare, but remember, deliverance and victory are of the Lord.  Give Him the glory!

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Praise Him

The picture below is of a tree stump up the road from me and whenever I drive past it I think of the trees of the fields praising the Lord and it reminds me that I too should be praising the Lord.  It is something that I am learning slowly but surely, to praise the Lord in all my circumstances.  He requires of me to praise Him as I trust Him to change my circumstances.  There are just times in life when there is absolutely nothing you can do to change things.  After doing all that you can do, you have to trust!  You have to release your faith in the Father to protect and comfort you.

So, is there something in your life that reminds you to praise the Lord?  Know it is a reminder from Him to do so.  Praise releases God's power in your life like nothing else does.

Isaiah 55 v 12:  For you shall go out [from the spiritual exile caused by sin and evil into the homeland] with joy and be led forth [by your leader, the Lord Himself, and His word] with peace;  the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the fields shall clap their hands.

I encourage you today to praise the Lord no matter what your circumstances look like.  Good or bad, God will never leave you nor forsake you.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Urgh, Trials!

I want to encourage anyone who is struggling right now.  God says He is with you and He will not leave you.  You also know that whatever someone means for your harm, God will use for your good!  You also know that all things work together for those who love the Lord.

Well, even when we know these things its tough sometimes, right?  God adds to all that encouragement and says:  James 1 v 2:  Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.

Ouch right?!

Just know you are not alone.  We all have trials and tribulations and this is such a great space to share and be encouraged.  If you need any prayer, leave a comment and I will be praying.  Lets end this year on a positive note!  Lets end this year with some overcoming and lots of praise music.

Praying for you as you overcome your trial in Jesus name.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - How colourful is your Bible?

On Sunday morning, I was sitting in church waiting for the service to start and as I often do, I started flipping through my bible.  No idea why, maybe I am waiting on divine inspiration or something.  Maybe its a nervous action to fill time space between seeing someone you know to say hi to, and waiting for the worship team to start.  Who knows why we do some things right?!

Anyway, I digress....  (love saying that)!  As I flipped through my bible I noticed how colourful the pages were round about Psalms and Proverbs.  And small splashes of colour in and around the New Testament.  But I noticed how really blank (devoid of colour) it was almost everywhere else!  Hmmm!  I have had this bible for a few years so, well, it should be more colourful.  More highlighting and underlining should be present!  Made me think!  This book needs more reading and studying done in it!

So I challenge you to get your bible more colourful.  It tells a story of how much time you've spent in it and how much understanding you are receiving from it! And if your bible is very colourful, consider getting a new one and start all over.  How many times have we read the same scripture and then one day, suddenly, that scripture comes to life in a whole new way?

Hebrews 4 v 12:  For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective];  it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Looking forward to seeing you link up below!

Winsome Wednesday - Fruity Words

I read a great scripture yesterday in Proverbs 18 v 21: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].  I always remember the bit about your words speaking life or death into a situation but I never read further (or absorbed it) to the fruit part!
  • It goes right back to sowing and reaping!
  • It goes right back to consequences!
This message does not only tell me, "think about what you saying".  This message also tells me that "what I say will come back to me" in the form of life or death in MY life!

THAT is powerful and scary and above all, true!

I want to encourage you today to join me and try, wherever possible, to say something good to everyone who crosses your path today, tomorrow, onwards.  I know it is not easy nor always possible and thank goodness God's mercies are new every morning.  But God honours our intent and our actions and He is gracious to forgive when we mess up!

We can do this!!!!!

God bless
Tracy

Follow Up on my 2013 word - TRUST! Part 1

Isn't it amazing how wrong we get it sometimes?  When I chose my word for 2013, TRUST, I knew I was trusting the Lord for a BIG thing.  It was a frightening and worrying and awful thing and I was trusting the Lord to resolve it with truth, favour and mercy.  Well, the Lord over and abundantly came through for us.  After 6 long years in this issue, the Lord gave us victory in Him, His mercy and grace were not reliant on my behaviour or what I did or did not do!  No, His mercy and grace were reliant on WHO HE IS!  And thankfully, He is the same yesterday, today and forever!

So, after that, midway through the year I felt my word might be a bit redundant!  Um..... NO!  There is so much more I have to trust for.  So much more I have to lean into Him and push through for!

  • My precious daughters are spreading their wings and experiencing life through their own decisions - I have to trust the Lord with them
  • There are plans we have that we believe the Lord has opened doors for - I have to trust Him for those
  • My husband is walking a new business path - I have to trust the Lord with and for him as he seeks to do what he feels is right as the bread-winner
  • And the list goes on
Yes, this is a year where my trust has been tested BIG time!  But I think each new challenge brings a whole new level of trust.

Not only that,
  • Do I remember how God came through for me before?
  • Will I apply that faith I learnt last time?
  • Will that faith rise automatically or will I stub my toe (again) a few times before the truth of the fact that God never changes lights my heart and mind?
So, my word "TRUST" remains one I have to hang onto through this year (and forever).  I need to and want to learn to respond automatically in faith to "TRUST" my Lord and Saviour.  I do not want these painful lessons to go to waste (or be repeated - urgh).

My encouragement to you today is that your trust in the Lord, operated in faith, is never wasted!  Things might not pan out the way you expect, but you can TRUST that His way is ALWAYS the best way!

Joshua 1 v 9:  Have I not commanded you?   Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Forever!

The Lord is the same, yesterday, today and forever.  It is something to remember when we face challenges.  He will always do what He sets out to do and if you are trying to walk closely with Him, He will always do as His word says He will do for you.

It is one of the reasons the Israelites always told stories from generation to generation, about Noah and the flood, about Moses and the exodus into the dessert, Daniel in the lion's den, David, Solomon.... all these people experienced God's miraculous power and salvation in times of trouble.  They repeat these stories to encourage and remind one another, God is the same today as He was then, as He always and forever will be.

I encourage you likewise.  God can do anything!  He is not limited by what we can imagine.  He knows your situation and He can and will change it when He is ready to.  And we have tons of history of His work to see He can do what He says He will do.  Your job is to trust Him, praise Him and wait on Him.

Eccl 3 v 14:  I know that whatever God does, it endures forever;  nothing can be added to it nor anything taken from it.  And God does it so that men will reverently fear Him [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is].

Stay Encouraged
God bless

Winsome Wednesday - My Rock....

The rock outcrop in the picture below is 20 minutes from my home.  Its called Paarl Rock and whenever I see it or any other rock formation, it reminds me that the Lord is unmovable, unchangeable.  The same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.  That gives me peace in this ever-changing world where nothing is certain or can be counted on.

Psalm 18 v 2:  The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;  my God, my strength, in whom I will trust;  my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Be encouraged today that God will never leave you nor forsake you!  You are His child, His pride and joy, His creation.

God bless

Great "How to behave" Scripture!

It is a daily challenge to do things God's way but seriously, what other way is as rewarding?  I came across this scripture the other day and it has really stuck in my heart.

Micah 6 v 8:  He has showed you, O man, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?

To live like this requires God's mercy and grace and thankfully, He gives us a fresh start every morning.  I am realizing more and more how gracious is our God.  I mess up so much and so often and without the hope of knowing He forgives, and is gracious in forgiving, DAILY (hourly if required), I would have looked for the end of the world to jump off by now.  You know, "Stop the world, I want to get off already!"

We serve a mighty and powerful God, who handles us with such love and such care and gentleness.  How can we not but be humbled and in awe?

I hope that you are encouraged today to walk each day, no matter what circumstances come your way in that day, walk it with the Lord.  He longs for our attention and friendship!

God bless

Another Definition of Closeness!

As I was hanging the washing up the other day, I was mulling of the closeness, or lack thereof, between myself and my daughters!  I felt wounded because I want to be close to my daughters as I was never close to my own Mom.  Now don't get me wrong, I love my Mom.  We're just not close!

James 1 v 17:  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Yes, my children are gifts, good gifts from the Lord for which I am truly and humbly grateful.

Winsome Wednesday - A New Season!

Join me, and Lulu-Belle (our princess) enjoying this new season in your life.  And if you're not there yet, thank the Lord for the new season that is coming... Because it will!

Isaiah 43 v 18-19:  Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  (19) Behold, I will do a new thing;  now it shall spring forth;  shall ye not know it?  I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Capture the Lie - Replace it with the Truth...

Do you ever find you are feeling negative and you feed into it?  Do you talk to yourself and have conversations with those thoughts in your mind?  Do you find yourself getting more and more depressed and negative?  Eventually, for me, I end up having a pity party, attendance 1!

Finally, I realize I need to read the word and slowly but surely the pity party ends and the sun seems brighter, things don't seem as bad as they did the day before and even if things are really really tough, I start to feel hope.

Now the point here is twofold.
  1. Listening to the lies in my head lead to, well.... no where but down and out and depressed
  2. Not immediately capturing that thought, identifying it, and replacing it with God's truth, well, leads to destruction and its all downhill from there...
Recently I was feeling very negative about a situation and even went so far as to vent on a friend's shoulder and thankfully she is God-sent and guided me to hold those thoughts captive!  And replace it with God's truth.  I told her that even though I would encourage someone else to do the same thing, I felt I was in a space where I would not know where to even start to do things God's way.  See how the evil one confuses you?  Eventually I prayed and told the Lord, "even if I don't know how to go about this, I know that reading the Word is the first step and Your Word Lord is alive and it will start making changes in me."
  • So you start small
  • You start with one lie YOU KNOW IS A LIE!
  • You seek the answer, the truth, in God's word!

For example, the lie that gets me often is that I am not worthy.  Worthy of being treated right, worthy of being helped, worthy of whatever.... But that is not the truth!!!! I am worthy because of the blood of the Lamb, worthy because I am a child of the Lord, worthy because He chose me, He saved me, He is my righteousness.  The word says so.  I have started a Lie/Truth journal so I can come back to it.  To write something down is a way of learning for me so it kind of gets in my head (finally).

The point is, find a way of getting the truth into your head and re-record over the lie!
  • Identify it,
  • replace it with truth,
  • keep that truth nearby for when you are weak and the evil one tries to remind you of this lie!
2 Corinth 10 v 5:  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

I encourage you to not let those lies grow in your mind.  Capture them and replace them with the truth, God's truth.

God bless
Tracy

A New Season

God's Word is full of newness.  A new season, a new day, a new covenant!  For this I am very grateful because if I were to not have the opportunity in Christ to be renewed, refreshed, restored, I would be swamped under with negativity, disappointment (in myself and others), and weighed down by sin.  I would be NOTHING without Christ, without His forgiveness and His grace and mercy!  All of which are undeserved and unmerited!

So join with me today in acknowledging our Lord and Saviour and giving Him thanks for all He has done for us and is doing, and still will do!  Some of us have been through recent storms, some of us are going through rough ones now, and some of us are heading for a storm.  I'd like to say to all of us, no matter where we are on our life journey God is with us.  He says so in His word and He is not a liar!

Eccl 3 v 1 - 11:
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

A Twist on Honour your Mother!

A while back I was asked to guest post and write about a "legacy" left to me and my Mom came to mind.

  • My Mom had me "Christened" as was the done thing to do in her day, and
  • She dropped me off at Sunday school from the time I was 7 or 8 years old.

She wasn't even (and still isn't) a Christian!

Now that is God!  My Mom only goes to church for births, deaths and weddings!  My Dad was also not a believer either.  In fact, he did not want to know anything about church or God.

But.... because my Mom dropped me off at Sunday School every Sunday (and keep in mind she worked full-time so this was a sacrifice for her), I became a Christian as a young teen.  This changed my life.  My brother followed suit and he too is a Christian today.

When I met my husband we were both a little lukewarm in the Christian department at the time.  We chose to go back to church, rededicated our lives to Christ, got engaged, married young (I was 19 and he was 24) and now 25 years later, we still serve the Lord.  Our two daughters serve the Lord (for which I am truly grateful), and they date guys who serve the Lord, for which I too am truly grateful!

A mother's gift? Love of the Lord
All because my Mom, a non-believer, dropped me off at Sunday School every Sunday.  Yes, she was used of God!  Yes, she was part of His plan for me.  So I feel, because of her sacrifice and faithfulness to deliver me to church every Sunday (and Friday and Saturday - thanks Mom), I believe the legacy left to me or given to me, is the best one, the only one!  I have eternal life, through Christ Jesus because of my Mom's faithfulness.

In honour of her I will continue to pray for her salvation so that she too will experience the love and grace of the Lord.

Exod 20 v 12:  Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

My encouragement to you is never think the things you do for your children go unnoticed or unrewarded.  My Mom's efforts got me saved and she does not even understand that.  As Christian moms your efforts have great spiritual value and in time you will see that.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - In need of Wisdom?

I feel I need some guidance, some inner oomph, some Godly strength!  Always, my go to place is Proverbs!  My encouragement to you is if you want to know God's word on "people skills", read Proverbs!  Want to grow in relationship with God?  Read the Psalms.  And the rest of the book as well of course!  :)

Dreams Do Come True....

Yes, they do!  But sometimes not always the way we expect them to.  Firstly, I think God changes our dreams as we strive to know Him better and spend time with Him!  They change, they become something we maybe don't want anymore, or.... we become more passionate about a certain dream.

My husband once wrote out a list of his heart's desires and many years later came back to that list.  He noted that some dreams had been met, some had changed, some he had no desire for anymore and some he felt even more strongly about than before.

Ps 147 v 11:  But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.

I believe this is because as one walks closer to the Lord, there are things in us that grow, change, mature!  Things that God wants us to deal with.  Things He wants us to overcome.  God is the ultimate parent!  He knows, to give us what we want, when we want it, is not always a good thing.  It could destroy us, set us back, or change our attitudes negatively.

One of my dreams has just come true!  Something I really desired but never truly believed I would achieve.  But,  the Lord wants to bless us!  The word says He looks for opportunities to bless us!  Sometimes we are blind to these opportunities, and sometimes we can't accept the blessing because we do not think we are worthy.  And sometimes we are just not READY for His blessing.

Ecc 2 v 26:  For to the one who pleases Him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner He has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God.  This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Its about learning to trust God knows what is best for us.  Its about learning to trust His timing in when and how He blesses us.  He, ultimately, knows us best and knows what is best for us.

My encouragement to you is to seek God always, study His word, trust in His word, because He will guide you and lead you and in that will be much blessing.  Your joy WILL be full.  And, those dreams, trust Him to fulfil them, remove them if they are not for your good, or change them into huge blessing.  He loves you more than you can ever fathom.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Have a cuppa tea with me?

Anyone who knows me online will know I LOVE my tea and I post tea comments, teacup and teapot pictures, tea quotes.  Its a laugh and amuses me.  Often times people think I must be a total TEA Drinker!  That I must have copious cups of tea a day.  Smiles!

But the truth is I have maybe 3 cups a day.  Less in summer, maybe a bit more in winter (it is cold then you know!)  Seriously though, its not the quantity of tea that makes me a tea-lover.  It is not even the quality of tea!  I am so boring when it comes to tea.  I like NORMAL tea.  Nothing funny or aromatic or fruity, or "different"!  Just NORMAL!  Lol!

I think what I love about a cup of tea is the event itself!  I put the kettle on, get out a favourite cup, make sure all immediate stuff is out the way!  Add my sugar and milk, find a spot be it on the couch or in front of my laptop, sit down, exhale and have that first comforting sip..... Yep, I love my cup of tea.  I think its my calm moment in the day!

The point I think I'm making is that I have made my cuppa tea a special moment.  So, before I sit down to blog, or have a quiet time, or share a moment with a friend, I prepare my special moment so I can focus!  What is your special moment?  What do you do to get into your groove?  I would love for you to link up and leave a comment so we all get to know one another more!  I little fun midweek!

1 Thess 5 v 16:  Rejoice always

Hard-hearted? Bitter?

The Israelites often remembered what the Lord had done for them in the past as a way to build up their faith.  When we were going through a really tough time, I tried to do the same thing, think of and list all the things God had been doing for us, in an attempt to build my faith!

My faith does build, but also there is another thing that happens!  You realize how involved God is in your life.  You realize He has not abandoned you.  I would think about a situation and see how the Lord sent a great friend to encourage me, or a stranger to remind me of God's love for me, or an obstacle would be moved out of the way that I could not in my wildest dreams imagine resolving!

Now, as I sit here, thinking of all the Lord has done, and feeling humbled and grateful, I also acknowledge a certain level of bitterness.  I certain level of heart-hardness.  And, you know what?  God is not going to sit idly by while I water those seeds.

Heb 3 v 8:  Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.
Eph 4 v 31:  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.

On a completely human level that bitterness and hurt and hard-heartedness is completely reasonable.  Completely understandable.  But in God's economy, that is not good enough.  Nope!  He wants me to let go of these horrible emotions before they become leafy green healthy water-sucking plants in my heart.  He wants me to cut them down now, at the root!  Remove them with vigour and determination, and replace them with the beauty and strength of God's foliage!  Fill those holes with His love and His desires!  And to water them with love, hope, faith.... and watch with anticipation as God grows awesome fruit in my life.

HOW?
Eph 4 v 32:  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

So, I encourage you if you are feeling similar feelings, despite knowing God has made changes in your life, despite knowing that God has worked miracles in your life, you still feel those niggly emotions that are not of God, I encourage you to take a step of faith with me as we let them go and place them before the Lord to deal with and replace those things with the things of the Lord.
