Are we tapping into the Power of Prayer? (1)

Over the last 6 months or so I have been praying for various friends.  Some I have never met, some are new friends, some old.  But I determined never to offer to pray unless I intended to do just that.
Then I found myself feeling very low, very despondent, and in need of some prayer myself.  And... God provided prayer for me from some precious friends, some I have never met, some new friends, some old!

I am very grateful to you (and you know who you are) for your prayers.  I get tearful just thinking that God loves me enough to have people praying for me.

Having said that I started having a faith crisis!  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God can do anything, fix anything, answer any prayer.  But ... will He do it for me?

Then my brother and his wife visited and stayed a few days.  He ended up being "The Driver" for my daughter and her boyfriend for a dance as their "ride" let them down at the last moment.

His wife (who I love to bits) and I joked, "No wonder God organised their visit, they needed a lift" and we had a good laugh.

BUT:  Within 5 minutes of being here my sister-in-law told me about a book!  Its about prayer called "The circle Maker" by Mark Batterson.  We discussed prayer and how this book had changed her perspective on prayer and that she had bought me a copy.

And then we joked, "Nope, God sent them to visit so she could give me this book," and we chuckled.

Truth be told - I don't believe in co-incidences!  God sent them so that Sonya would give me that book!  I am 28 pages in and I am so excited about prayer!  Specifically, my prayer life!

One of the first things the author says is, "It is absolutely imperative at the outset that you come to terms with this simple yet life-changing truth:  God is for you."  That, for me, was God answering my faith crisis: "Yes Tracy, My power and strength, grace and mercy, are for you too!"

Oh Lord, thank you!  And ladies, His love, His grace, His mercy, His miracles, ARE for you too!  Romans 8 v 31:  What then shall we say to these things, if God is for us then who can be against us.

But God.....

This last 2 weeks have been very tough for me.  Actually, the last month!  No..... the last 5 1/2 years.  Ok ok, there most certainly have been good times as well but the last 5 1/2 years have been tainted with overwhelming heartbreak!  Family splits and business stresses.  But through it all God has been there.  He has held us up!  He has prospered us where others promised to destroy us.

Sounds dramatic and it is!  And I don't have the freedom to elaborate.  What I do believe beyond a shadow of a doubt, I will have a testimony soon about God's vindication for us, about God's protection and blessings.  Actually, I testify now, He has protected us, financially, physically, emotionally and spiritually!

And I believe God is not finished with us in this situation!  But the last two weeks have been very stressful and the onslaught continues and there are times when I just feel I cannot bare the attack much longer...

BUT GOD....

But God - has surrounded me with friends who pray, some I know, some I've never met
But God - gives me key scriptures that give me hope, renew my strength
But God - shows me there are others who need prayer and helps me focus on others
But God - is gracious
But God - is faithful
But God - is always with me
But God - is merciful
But God - His word is true and He will NEVER EVER fail me (or you)

Thank you to all of you who have picked up on my hurt and have comforted me with prayer.  You have no idea how awesome that is to me and how precious.  Thank you for the cyber hugs.  They are as precious to me as real hugs.  I am grateful for everyone of you.

At the same time I want to encourage you all, God knows where you are at, He cares and He is right there with you.

Duet 31 v 6:  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you;  He will never leave you nor forsake you.

1 Thess 5 v 11:  Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

God bless

Effort and Rest

Here is an excerpt from God Calling:
"Come to Me, talk to Me, dwell with Me and then you will know My Way is a sure way, My Paths are safe paths.  Come very near to Me.  Dig deep down into the soil of the Kingdom.  Effort and rest - a union of the two."

It is so important to rest.  Right now I feel in desperate need of rest!  I feel like a tightly wound spring and that is not biblical or balanced.

Sometimes it is not possible to "holiday".  For us this is near impossible because of the nature of our business but God does encourage us to work 6 days and rest on the 7th.  He knows us SO WELL.  He knows, as our Creator, just what we need.

So, to work 6 days and then stress on the 7th is a wrong way to rest!  So I am going to start training myself to 'rest' properly once a week!  I'm going to be disciplined (or try) about rest because rested I am a better wife, mother and friend!  One of the ways I definitely feel more rested is after a really good quiet time!  A daily rest for the soul!  And a weekly physical rest for the body.

Matt 11v 28:  Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
And of course:
Ps 23 v 3(a):  He restores my soul...

Thankful - no matter what!

Today I want to focus on all that I am thankful and grateful for because right now, my attitude is terrible and I need to focus on what is good and real and true in my life.

So, I am thankful and truly grateful that God's mercies are new every day (Lam 3 v 22-23).  Without this awesome gift, I would be done for.

I am grateful that even though the Lord knows my thoughts , He loves me and blesses me anyway.

I am thankful for each day.

I am thankful that although I am finding it hard to trust people, I can trust HIM.  He is trustworthy and true and He will never let me down.

Today my heart's desire is to give praise and thanksgiving to the One who created me, to the One who loves me enough that He gave a huge sacrifice for my salvation.  My heart's desire this day is to focus on Him and love Him and look up and make Him my focus.  Today, I want to constantly bring to mind those things for which I am thankful and make my own list so I can look back on it before I go to sleep at night so I go to sleep thankful.  It is in doing this, that my hope and joy will be restored, my faith and peace will be renewed.

After all, many are His thoughts about me (and you).  Ps 139 v 17:  How precious are Your thoughts about me.  They cannot be numbered.

I will remember today that it is not about what is going on around me, no, it is about the Lord and only about the Lord.  In changing my focus to Him, I know all that is around me and my perspective on it will change too.

My encouragement to you is that you remember how much God loves you and that He chose you long before you were aware of Him and His great love for you.  Remember His unmerited favour and undeserved grace that He pours out on us.  He does this because He first loved us.

God bless
Tracy
