Read it out Loud!

Ps 117 v 1-2:  Praise the Lord, all you nations!  Praise Him, all you people! (2) For His mercy and loving-kindness are great toward us, and the truth and faithfulness of the Lord endure forever, Praise the Lord! (Halelujah)

Its a short psalm and it kept catching my eye so I decided to read it out loud.  And as I did that these things stood out for me...

  • Praise the Lord - yes, do it, praise Him
  • His mercy and loving-kindness are great toward us.  As I read this my jaw dropped (mentally) as I realized that because His mercy is great toward me, I am not going through nearly as much as I could be!  What I am going through is tough, very tough, but because of His mercy it is not worse and because of His mercy, I WILL make it!  And its because of His mercy that random verses come my way that are JUST the right ones and JUST the right time, God-incidences, acts of kindness, caring friends, etc.  God's mercy is overwhelming and undeserved!
  • His truth, His faithfulness endures FOREVER!  Not just while I behave or while I am getting things right. Even when I mess up, even when I fail, His faithfulness and His truth endure forever!

Small chapter, great truths

Deep roots - Good fruits!

Anyone who knows me well enough knows I love the book "God Calling".  I was reading the following in my quiet time over the weekend and really just wanted to share it with you:
"Remember the lesson of the seed too in its sending a shoot down so that it may be rooted and grounded, while at the same time it sends a shoot up to be the plant and flower that shall gladden the world.
The two growths are necessary.  Without the strong root it would soon wither, as much activity fails for lack of growth in Me.  The higher the growth up, the deeper must be the enrooting.
Many forget this and thus their work ceases to be permanent for Me.  Beware of the leaves and flowers without the strong root."
I found this to be very profound.  If we want our work in Christ to be valuable and long lasting we need our roots to grow deep in the Word, deep into the truths of the Lord.  We need to absorb it and live it and in time we will bear that fruit.  Good, usable, honest fruit.

I found it interesting that this excerpt points out to beware of the leaves and flowers that look good but are in fact short-lived and not God-centred.  Its impossible to see the roots and I think its at these times we need to seek God for discernment and guidance so we do not fall for appearances.

1 John 4 v 8:  He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Eph 3 v 17:  That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love...

God is love and so if we are rooted in God we operate in love.  I hope this encourages you today to walk in love and to dig those roots deeper into God our Father so the fruits we display in time will be fruits of love.

God bless

Give thanks when you least feel like it!

Ps 118 v 1:  O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;  for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

This last week HAS BEEN TOUGH for me.  And as each wave of trials has washed up on the shore of my life, I have had this deep down certainty that these waves are trying to blind me to the treasures (blessings) that the Lord has in store for me and my family.  But an even greater certainty I have, is that God has got this, He is in control and everything the enemy throws at us will come to nothing as I stand firm in Christ!

So as an act of faith I am thanking the Lord for all He is doing in my life even if I can't see it (thus faith) but also for all I can see.

Thank you Jesus:

  • for protecting us on the roads
  • for protecting us in our home
  • for protecting us from those who would hurt us
  • for friends who help to hold up our arms while the battle rages
  • for the birds that sing outside my bedroom window and draw my mind away from the ugly stuff
  • for warm blankets and warm clothes, a blessing I am truly grateful for
  • for Your Word that encourages, uplifts, and restores
  • for laughter and those who draw it out of me
  • for my girls, for their love and gentleness when they see their mom hurting
  • for my husband, for his strength in You in the face of adversity

I thank You
I praise You
I exalt You Father
I glorify Your name for You alone are worthy!

God bless

How do we frustrate the enemy?

Well, the enemy comes to steal, cheat, kill and destroy.  He does this by manipulating us and influencing us because he has a pretty good idea of how we work.

This is what God's word tells us to:
  • Renew our minds daily (Rom 12 v 2)
  • Repent daily (1 Corin 15 v 31, die daily to self)
  • His mercies are new every morning (Lam 3 v 23)
  • Put on the full armour of God every day (Eph 6 v 10-18)
It is a daily battle.  So, how do we frustrate the enemy's attacks and plans?
(1)  We stand firm in faith because,
  • we know from Whom our help comes
  • we know how the book ends
  • we know greater is He (Christ) Who is in us, than he that is in the world!
Stand Firm
(2)  We rejoice, praise the Lord, give up an offering of thanksgiving DAILY, through trials.  Okay, I know that is hard!  I'm not trivializing any trial you may be going through!  I just know that when I am in a place of  - "I can't do this anymore!" - and I start praising, my attitude in the trial starts changing.

Do you want to frustrate the enemy?
Keep your eyes on God and turn your back on the enemy in faith knowing that anything he means for your harm God will use for good!

God bless

What does the Word say?

  • Has someone stolen from you?
  • Has someone cheated you out of what's owing to you?
  • Did someone scam you?

God says:
Joel 2 v 25:  And I will restore or replace for you the years that the locust has eaten...
  • Has someone lied to you?
  • Has someone lied about you?
  • Has someone attacked your character?
  • Has someone spread false and hurtful rumours about you?

God says:
Jer 51 v 36(a):  Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold I will plead your cause and take vengeance for you.

Gen 50 v 20:  But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save...

My encouragement to you is that God's word deals with every and anything you could possibly being going through!  The Word is God and God is the Word!  You can trust Him and His word.

God bless
Tracy

Calm is Strength!

I was trying to explain my feelings expecting understanding but got the whole back and forth that is misunderstanding and miscommunication.  A vicious cycle, so I decided to back off and put my feelings aside which I did, with a miserable attitude.

Later while having a quiet time I was mentally explaining to God and myself that my problem was having the expectation in the first place, to have my feelings heard and understood!  I concluded that in future I would not have any expectations, that I would keep quiet and leave my feelings in God's hands!  I explained to God and myself further that I was not moving from a place of optimism to a place of defeat, but rather to a place of realism!  I was choosing reality over La La Land!  And thus I left it in God's hands (very [un]graciously).

I continued with my quiet time.  And then....

Even though I left my 'issue' in God's hands with a defeatist realistic attitude He immediately answered:

This is an excerpt from the book "God Calling"
"All agitation is destructive of good.  All calm is constructive of good, and at the same time destructive of evil.  When man wants evil destroyed so often he rushes to action.  It is wrong.  First be still and know that I am God.  Then act only as I tell you.  Always calm with God.  Calm is trust in action.  Only trust, perfect trust can keep one calm.  Never be afraid of any circumstances or difficulties that help you to cultivate this calm."
And the scripture with it:
Isaiah 30 v 15(b):  In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.

INSERT LIGHTENING HERE!!!!

Tracy - Be quiet, it is a strength! and...
          - have confidence in Me to deal with your feelings!

HELLO!!!

Yes, I got it!  I will strive in future to optimistically keep quiet, it is a strength, in the confidence that Christ will work in my circumstance, He will hear and understand my feelings without me having made a hash of trying to make someone understand!

I pray this is the encouragement to you that it is to me!

Revenge?

We once were dealing with a Professor of Law who was helping us with some horrible issue and when our business with him concluded he emailed us and said, "Your best revenge is to succeed and have good health."

Now that is obviously not a Christian view point but as Christians, when we stand firm on the word, when we persevere and push through and allow God to be our defence, all the enemy's attacks come to nothing.
Psalm 112 v 10:  The wicked man will see it and be grieved and angered, he will gnash his teeth and disappear [in despair]; the desire of the wicked shall perish and come to nothing.

When we stand through the storm believing the sunshine is coming, then the elements of the storm:  rain, hail, lightening, thunder, will do us no long term harm;  because we KNOW the sunshine is coming!!!

When you stand firm and trust God and He prospers you in your life, the enemy sees it and ups the ante and it seems worse for a while but God's word says "The desire of the wicked comes to nothing."

My encouragement to you is to stand firm with God's armour firmly in place!  The enemy's darts may come fast and furiously but greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.

God bless
Tracy

Winsome Wednesday - Decisions Decisions!

I have been very antsy lately about my blog.  I feel like I am losing focus so I went to reread my Blog Goals to remind myself why I am blogging and what it is all about.

And....what is it about?  Its about God!

So now I have made a few decisions and this was my hardest one.

This will be my last Winsome Wednesday Bloghop (for now) and I would love for you to link up with me one last time (for now - double-minded much?)  I will miss this forum very much.  I feel that my motives for the bloghop are more about me and less about God and my focus here has caused me to lose sight of what I feel it is God wants me to do.

I will be commenting and visiting and posting more, because for me, to encourage others is my heart's desire I believe placed there by the Lord.
See you all out there in cyberspace as we seek to glorify God through our experiences, our hurts, and our lives in general.

As I write this it comes to mind that maybe this is a reminder to us all to make sure we are doing what God wants us to do and not what 'we' want to do.  His way, His plan for our lives, is far better than any plan we could possibly come up with.

Prov 16 v 9:  A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.

Make sure it is the Lord directing your steps.

God bless
Tracy

Exhort! Encourage!

I was dealing with a big problem.  One that affected my walk with Christ, my emotions, my mind!  And one day (not so long ago) I told the Lord, "So far and no further!  I cannot take it anymore!  If You want to fix this then You do it!  Because I give up!  I'm done!"

And.... its in the surrendering (however ungraciously) that Christ started working in my 'problem'.
  • First, I gave up and let go!
  • Secondly, God placed wonderful encouragers in my path.  People who speak into my life, help direct my focus to the positive and not the negative.
  • Thirdly, things started to change, quickly!
Now, you need to understand this is a long standing problem and suddenly, after years and years of my fixes and solutions and attempts to lay it at Christ's feet, suddenly things started to change!  Dramatically!

And then unrelated things started to straighten out and my heart and mind and soul recognised that these changes, these happenings, events, these blessings, they were permanent, unmerited, undeserved extra special!

I know it all seems a bit vague but my point is - I had to let go - REALLY let go - for God to start working in my circumstance.

I wanted to ask God, "Why now?  What's different?"  But felt God was saying, "Just say thank you, thank you, thank you!"

My encouragement to you is twofold:
  1. Let go and let God!!  and
  2. Never think that what you are going through is of no value.
Allow God to use your experiences to help others, to encourage and exhort them!  It is in doing this that one is greatly blessed and humbled to be used of God!

Acts 14 v 22:  Strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God."

Winsome Wednesday - Where are you Looking?

Ps 25 v 15:  My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

This verse tells me a few things:
  • It tells me where my focus should be - on the Lord
  • The Lord will preserve me - if my focus is on Him
  • There are nets/traps/troubles beneath my feet
Thus life is not trouble free because your eyes are on the Lord, but He preserves you through the troubles.

This verse also shows me that my preservation comes from keeping my eyes on the Lord.  If I keep my eyes on the problems those problems will consume me.

This verse also tells me, God has my problems under control.  He will deal with them, He will prevent them from consuming me.  In fact, He will use those problems to mature me, better me and use them to benefit me for His name's sake.
Rom 8 v 28:  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

My encouragement to you - keep your eyes on God and God alone.

God bless
Tracy
