Slapped on the wrist!!!!

This weekend I received an email from someone whose picture I had used on another blog, the one for my hubby's business and she laid the law down, "Remove the picture or pay for the use thereof."  Well, she is right.

I promptly removed it and emailed her apologising.  She accepted and offered some stern advice.  It is something that had been tickling the back of my mind for a while now but I had been ignoring it.  I personally did not have the photos that would say in pictures what I sometimes try to say in words.  BUT, that will change, WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT!

From now on, the pictures on my blog or any other blog I am involved in, will be my own.  I am not a professional photographer by any means.  My husband bought me an awesome camera as an early Christmas present and I am enjoying it thoroughly!  So, I am going to experiment and use only my pics.

I believe that firstly, God sent me a gentle slap on the wrist so that I don't get into bigger trouble further down the line.  Secondly, He has provided the means for me to supply my own pictures.  And thirdly, taking photos is certainly giving me much joy, giving my husband and I lots of time together for leisure as we visit different places for me to click away at any and anything that catches my eye.  I am grateful for his patience as I constantly stop him to take yet another picture.
Joshua 24v24:  And the people said to Joshua, "The Lord our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey.

My encouragement to you is if you hear the soft and gentle voice of the Lord, listen!  Because He is protecting you from future trouble.  He loves you and cares for you and wants to protect you.

God bless
Tracy

  1. Haha - good job on owning up to that publically! I wonder about the same thing as I often use photos from stock.xchng which are supposed to be OK to use as they are royalty free. But I would rather use my own, and I do have a nice camera! So I will probably do the same and start taking more of my own - great photos by the way :)

    1. Hi Karin, ahhh, thank you! I am putting my name on my pics but as i don't 'sell' my photos I'm not overly bothered (I think) if someone else uses them. maybe if they used them on a horrible website I would freak out. Hmm, will have to think about that....

  4. Hard lesson, I'm sure. I either use my own photos or ones from a paid site. I'm afraid to use any others for this very reason. I love the photo you made yourself!

  5. I learned, too, that just because a photo is on the internet doesn't make it public domain. Just like we wouldn't want someone stealing our words, I'm sure photographers don't want someone stealing their images. Like you, I want to be above reproach in everything I do, even if sometimes I break the rules out of ignorance. Thanks for sharing the reminder. My friend Gail, at Bible Love Notes, has some great tips on photograph guidelines & sites on her blog. Check it out!

  6. Hi Lori - I feel so much better having taken this step. I would rather have my own photos or no photos than hurt the name of the Lord. although, in honesty, I should have done it before been slapped on the wrist, right?! :)
BTW, I love visiting Gail's blog, so practical and loving!

  7. Your pictures above are beautiful. I am a wanna be amateur photographer. So basically, I am not. ;) But I LOVE taking pictures and do it all the time. It just always seems like I don't have the right picture for what I want at the time. sigh

Great reminder to listen for the voice of God, even in the little things.

  8. I can sure relate to this! God has been showing me an area that I have to change, yet He is so gentle about it. He is also making me change before it causes me harm and trouble.

  15. Wow! I think we are all in the same boat when it comes to taking pictures off the web and using them. I just never thought anyone would notice. I'll have to make sure I don't do that anymore, because getting slapped on the wrist is awful:)) Your photos are beautiful that you took! Love that Joshua verse:)

  18. Hi, Tracy, I get asked about free/legal use images so often, so I wrote a post with some sites where you can get images for blogs. It's here, if you want to check it out: http://biblelovenotes.blogspot.com/2011/03/menu-wall.html
I hope it helps...gives you a little more range than simply your own photos.
Sorry you had to have this harsh email...I know lots of folks don't know the rules. At first I thought you could use anything as long as it didn't specifically say you couldn't. : )

  20. Good for you to apologize so quickly. I had to do that awhile back for a blog I posted that the hostess said it did not fit her catagory. Oh well, I love your photos, but I am not a very good photo taker. There are times the only picture is one I must take, but usually I use the royalty free photos available. I do a search for clip art free for some if I don't want a real person in the photo. Photobucket is supposed to be free also.
Thanks for sharing at Tell me a story.

  25. We all encounter the time when we don't have the right picture or image. thank-you for sharing with honesty. Sometimes I look for a royalty free picture at Wikimedia Commons. The site explains if you can simply use the image or if you need to give credit to the photographer/artist.

  27. Great advice Traci! I am always convicted about how I use my pictures. I always use sites that are ok to use and give credit, or I use my own. I love to take pictures too. It's so fun to see what I come up with. Have a happy Sunday friend! You are always such a blessing to me. :)
