Are we tapping into the Power of Prayer? (2)

Do we actually know what we want from God?

We need to define what we want from God.  Not a list of things or selfish ambitions.  But where is it in our lives that we want the touch of God, where we need a miracle.  This really got me thinking.

The writer of The Circle Maker, Mark Batterson, states "God does not answer vague prayers" and immediately a prayer I often prayed came to mind.  It was for the protection of our property.  I was specific!  I prayed that God would surround our property with a chain of angels and that if anyone tried to deface our boundary wall that they would see an angel and run for their lives.  I prayed the chain of angels would prevent anyone trying to enter for no good!  And I prayed believing.  And to this day (that was 11 years ago and we don't even own that property anymore) that boundary wall has no graffiti or any defacement on it!

That was specific and I felt God was saying "you know HOW to pray like this, I've shown you where you have, now up you game, be specific."

Ouch!  God knows the desires of my heart but He wants me to verbalize it and He wants me to come to Him so when He answers there is NO DOUBT that He is the cause of that answered prayer.

1 John 3 v 22:  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

My encouragement to you is to be specific in your prayer life!  And then line your prayer up with a promise God has given you.  God's word is true, His promises are for you.  Now pray in faith.

God bless
Tracy

  2. This is so true Tracy; we do need to be specific in prayer, and it's important to also be transparent with one another about our praise and prayer requests, so they can be specific in praying for us. Yes, He does know the desires of our hearts, but He rejoices when we bring our specific needs and praises to Him first!

Blessings and love my dear friend!

  3. I like this: "when He answers there is NO DOUBT that He is the cause of that answered prayer.
I need to trust Him with all my hopes and dreams, telling Him each and every one. Blessings!

    1. Hi Christina - I agree with you. If we can't trust Him with our hopes and dreams then who? He is the only One we can trust

  4. I love this! Yes, often vague prayers leave question and ambiguity about if, or when, or how they got answered! Am reminded of my greatest seasons of faith. It has often been when I write my prayers...so later I can specifically look at the answers and know that it was God who answered! Your post stirs me to do this again! Thanks, my friend. Blessings, jen

  5. Ohhhh my friend!! This post came at the right time for me!!!
God does know what is on my heart, and today I have been specific with my prayer. My daughter, my oldest, whom I am very proud for serving our country in the US Army found out her new unit she is transferring to is preparing to deploy overseas in 2013. ( Did I mention she she got back from Afghanistan?) My specific prayer and some may think it is selfish, is God will allow her to be put on "rear dettachment" so she will not have to go back for another year over there. Your post cold not have come at a better time for me!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
    Blessings!!!!

  8. This is so encouraging and convicting. I am guilty of tossing up vague prayers like- "protect my kids" or "guide our family." I love your property prayer example.. am going to re-define some of my one-lined-pleas. Can't wait to watch as He answers. Thanks for these wise words here today.
