Effort and Rest

Here is an excerpt from God Calling:
"Come to Me, talk to Me, dwell with Me and then you will know My Way is a sure way, My Paths are safe paths.  Come very near to Me.  Dig deep down into the soil of the Kingdom.  Effort and rest - a union of the two."

It is so important to rest.  Right now I feel in desperate need of rest!  I feel like a tightly wound spring and that is not biblical or balanced.

Sometimes it is not possible to "holiday".  For us this is near impossible because of the nature of our business but God does encourage us to work 6 days and rest on the 7th.  He knows us SO WELL.  He knows, as our Creator, just what we need.

So, to work 6 days and then stress on the 7th is a wrong way to rest!  So I am going to start training myself to 'rest' properly once a week!  I'm going to be disciplined (or try) about rest because rested I am a better wife, mother and friend!  One of the ways I definitely feel more rested is after a really good quiet time!  A daily rest for the soul!  And a weekly physical rest for the body.

Matt 11v 28:  Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
And of course:
Ps 23 v 3(a):  He restores my soul...

God bless
Tracy

  2. Hi Tracy!
I am actually posting on my other blog all month about doing things like RESTing to actually feel healthier! I was feeling the same way...so today I decided I needed to "come away" with Him...but instead of hurrying back to my To DO's after- I took myself a Bubble Bath. In the afternoon. ANd you know what, God really blessed that time. I know it sounds silly but I used to enjoy them regularly and now I barely take the time to nurture myself like that! God can use bubble baths to minister grace and truth ya know! I enjoyed "A Sudden Glory" by Sharon Jaynes and was all teary in the tub! It was like a Dead Sea bath with all the salt. Healing waters! lol
Take time to smell the roses, sweet lady!Or those cute purple flowers in the picture whatever they are! In His Grace, Dawn

  4. After lunch to day I felt truly weary, and this is such a good word for me. I have been unusually stressed physically and emotionally the last month, and God has brought some very good things out of the situations that were stressing me. And now, I realize how weary it all made me. I need more time to reflect in God's Word. thanks for reminding me of that. I pray you also will have that stress-free rest, my friend. Gail

  6. Every time. Never fails. I come to your blog & read EXACTLY what I need. With school starting & 6:00 a.m. mornings, I desperately need this rest. And if a day off helped our Heavenly Father, then how much more should I head the warning! Thank you sister!

  7. Thanks for reminding us how important rest is. It's during times of rest that God refreshes and re-energizes us to be able to work the rest of the time.

  8. I agree with you and I know just the place where you can go to rest and be pampered and spoilt and allowed to sleep late, do what you want when you want and how you want to do it....it is called my house....so come......bless you.

  10. We all need to take a rest if we’ve been putting forth to much effort and hard work to accomplish everything we think we have to (that's me too Tracy!) It is a much needed gift from God to have silent time with only our thoughts and no other commitments…to rest our soul and body. :)

    Blessings and a restful day...soon! :)

  12. You are so right! God knows us and knows what is best for us! I'm thankful that He designed a day of rest for us. I know that without it I'd be, well...let's just say I would be pleasant to be around1 lol

    Blessings, Joan

  14. I'm still in a time of rest, having wrestled with God for quiet a while about it. Now, I value rest in all ways, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Thank for the reminder.
