"Remember the lesson of the seed too in its sending a shoot down so that it may be rooted and grounded, while at the same time it sends a shoot up to be the plant and flower that shall gladden the world.
The two growths are necessary. Without the strong root it would soon wither, as much activity fails for lack of growth in Me. The higher the growth up, the deeper must be the enrooting.
Many forget this and thus their work ceases to be permanent for Me. Beware of the leaves and flowers without the strong root."I found this to be very profound. If we want our work in Christ to be valuable and long lasting we need our roots to grow deep in the Word, deep into the truths of the Lord. We need to absorb it and live it and in time we will bear that fruit. Good, usable, honest fruit.
I found it interesting that this excerpt points out to beware of the leaves and flowers that look good but are in fact short-lived and not God-centred. Its impossible to see the roots and I think its at these times we need to seek God for discernment and guidance so we do not fall for appearances.
1 John 4 v 8: He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
Eph 3 v 17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love...
God is love and so if we are rooted in God we operate in love. I hope this encourages you today to walk in love and to dig those roots deeper into God our Father so the fruits we display in time will be fruits of love.
God bless
Tracy

Beautifully written Tracy; praying that our roots grow deeper and deeper so that we will be deeply rooted and grounded in His love and grace! :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings and grace my friend,

Hi Denise - Amen, that is my heart's desire. I dont want to be rooted in anything or anyone else, Just Jesus

I've never thought about "the higher the plant, the deeper the roots need to be." Love this reminder! Just yesterday I was telling my husband that I feel like I need to spend so much more time in the WOrd than I used to need to in order to stay strong and "balanced."... your post is encouraging- maybe I need to "root" more each day b/c God is trying to grow me taller than I used to be! Always a joy to visit you, Tracy!
ReplyDeleteHi Alicia - great thing to aspire to, digging deeper every day in the word.

That is my daily prayer over me and my family...I actually use the prayer in Ephesians 3! Wonderful reminder to us all.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon - great prayer to pray. They say the best way to pray is to pray the Word

I love when you said, "If we want our work in Christ to be valuable and long lasting we need our roots to grow deep in the Word, deep into the truths of the Lord." Apart from Him we can do nothing. Great reminder to be rooted in our faith!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli - So true, apart from Him we can do nothing!

Operating in love...what an encouraging thought. We don't have to "try" to love, but as our roots deepen our love grows. All things--in Christ!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela - yes, I think one day we realize we are handling 'people' and circumstances differently, then we know the love of the Lord is growing in us
DeleteGod bless
Oh, I love what you have done with the nature of growing. Between my boys growing and my garden things growing - this is dear to my heart! You've given me another angle to think about those roots!

I love these thoughts - thanks for sharing. And I am wanting to purchase the book you mentioned, as I have heard references to it quite a bit. Love the book, Jesus Calling, and this one sounds a lot like it. (Visiting from Word Filled Wednesday)
ReplyDeleteHaving a solidly healthy root, going the right direction, right place, right time, is very important. When the Word is my best Root, when I am focusing on the "minerals" that are being poured inside me, I will often sense that wonderful health... and the result is showing through my eyes, with joy, peace, love, blessing others. A good root is good.
ReplyDeleteYes, praying that my roots go deep - into His word, into His presence, into His love.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Joan
