Are you going around the same tree again and again?

Over the years when things have gotten tough we have sold up, settled our debts and moved on.  We have moved a lot and one of the reasons for that is we do the same things and make the same mistakes over and over again!

Well, this last time has been different.  Things got tough and our usual M.O. is to sell up, sort out and move on promising God we will change.  But God had other plans:  He prevented our home from being sold, none or our usual 'plans' worked.  God allowed them all to be blocked.

Nothing in our own strength worked!
Then one night I watched a program on TV about a woman who had been spied on in her own home via video by a neighbour, who was an elder in their church, a family man, and a family friend.  To cut a long story short he was caught out, but there was no 'law' against it as they had allowed him access to the home, as a friend!  The church encouraged her to 'let it go and move on'.  Her life was totally turned upside-down.  She showered in her clothes, she changed in her cupboard.  Her life had been devastated!

Then.... she decided that enough was enough!  She went to work getting a law passed which ultimately happened.  They changed churches!  But... they still live where they always lived, they still worked where they always worked.  They pushed through a very tough time and got through it.  Their neighbour and his family eventually left town!

They stayed - and won
The enemy - left

My encouragement to you is to stand firm.  Push through.  Trust God in the tough times and don't run!  Yes, there will be times when its God's will for you to move but for us to do so was to repeat the same pattern and not have the satisfying victory in Christ for pushing through.  I can say that for us, having done things God's way, despite our every attempt to do it our way, has brought much peace, much joy and much satisfaction.  We are staying - and winning!  And the glory?  Its all God's!

Jer 42 v 10:  If you will still abide in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up.   For I am relenting concerning the disaster that I have brought upon you.
That is how God works - do things His way, you benefit, just remember to give Him all the glory!

God bless
Tracy

  6. Great advice for me, Tracy. Because I have moved so much all my life, I have never had to really follow through on things when the going got rough. Now, I am settled...almost three years now and not moving. That means i have to learn to persevere. A good lesson.

    1. Hi Jenifer - being blind to how God works is scary but then what would be the point of faith? And how rewarding when we do step out in faith!

    2. hey friend -- had to come back to share something that came to mind a little bit ago after i popped back here again . . .

your story reminded me much of a wonderful message my pastor taught sev. yrs. ago (on jer. 29:4-14) where the Lord calls the Israelites (in vs. 7) to PRAY FOR & BLESS their place of exile -- rather than wanting to run away from it. he (david horner) said that "Because we did not choose the consequence and do not like the place of our exile, we have a tendency to refuse to contribute anything to the good of the place."

how wonderful that the Lord is in the process of redeeming your journey through your recognizing His plan for you to STAY! you are blessing the place where you ARE! indeed, to God be ALL the glory, friend!!

  14. Oh what good advice--stand firm and push through. I've had to do it many times. It's not always easy, is it? Big blessings follow when we allow God to do the working.

  15. Great post. We see over and over in the scriptures the admonition to "stand firm" against the schemes of the enemy. HE fights the battle as we stand firm and rest in HIS power.

I come here frequently and join in your blog link-up weekly but buzzed over here today via Marital Oneness link-up.

  18. You know, sometimes we need to come to the end of ourselves. When we stop doing things in our own strength and allow God to work, things happen.

    Blessings,

  19. I love the lines, "They stayed and won. The enemy left." When we stand firm in Christ, that's exactly the outcome. Thanks for sharing!

  21. The battle belongs to the Lord...so often we forget that for God to fight, we need to give Him the opportunity to do so.
Stay, and win. Let God drive away the enemy.

    Powerful post, Tracy!
Thanks for sharing it over at my place. Your posts are ALWAYS a source of encouragment and spiritual growth.
