What a Price!

1 Cor 9 v 20:  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

You know, I have been weight-conscious in all the wrong ways for more than half my life!  And here, in God's word, is an admonition to look after myself.  Why?  Look at the price paid for me, and for you!

How can I be so self-absorbed and so self-destructive and so blind?

Emotional roller coaster

Its not about the world's measurements (pardon the pun).  Its not about being magazine thin!  It not even about health and fitness as the world sees it!

Its about looking after my body because God says so!  If your body is being looked after, its easier to look after your spirit.

I know when my day starts with jumping on the scale, my emotions are effected up or down and I let it affect my day.

Now....rewind....and replay....

Jump up and feed my spirit, read God's word FIRST, and eat healthily and well and then I am honouring in some small way, God's sacrifice for my life.  Its just one of the things I can do to show God I appreciate His gift to me.
Now, having said that I know that I will continue to struggle in this area.  But each time I choose to honour God by looking after my body, I will have the victory and God the glory.  That is my goal.

First feed your spirit!

My encouragement to you is to make feeding your body about honouring God which in turn will feed your Spirit and remove the worldly burden to be someone the world dictates to you, you should be.

God bless
Tracy

  1. So true Tracy; it's all about feeding the spirit, and then it will come from God who works within us from the inside out. If we want an outward change, we must ask God to do His work from the inside out first. :)

    Joyful blessings sweet friend!

  2. Great encouragement, Tracy. I struggled with body image and an eating disorder all through high school. We need to consume truth...HIS TRUTH.

    1. Hi Jenifer - I think you have got it right, it is selfish and self-absorbing thus not about Him.

  7. Feeding the spirit...yes, so true! When we continually put God's word in our hearts and offer our worship and praises back to Him, we will become healthy spiritually! As you know by reading my post, I have had an increased desire to also take care of myself physically and have been combining the two (feeding the spirit and becoming healthier in body)! What a joy that He gives us the strength and encouragement to do both!

    Blessings, Joan

  8. I agree with you Tracy. We must choose to honor God. Read the word first...chew on it...ask the Lord for guidance...and everything else will fall into place. However...I fail at this way too often! Very encouraging post.

  10. What more can I say...Guilty!:) So often we worry about what we look like on the outside, how to impress the world out there, we forget how to embrace the spirit and soul. We forget to walk in His image, after all, each of us is His special creation. I once again I take up the challenge, join you first thing in the morning with a thick slice of His daily bread, a cup filled with spiritual water from His Living steams, go for my run in Faith and see how the curves of Joy, Love, Happiness, Peace, Gentleness, Kindness and self control forms around my body.
You are an inspiration, thank you Tracy – doll :))

  13. I like what you said, about instead of jumping on the scale (first) to enjoy first some spiritual food from God's Word.
Then to eat healthy. Thank you for sharing at "Tell me a Story."

  19. What an extraordinary rewind. We find so many ways to trip ourselves up, often without intending to do so. I was attracted to your button (from the Beholding Glory Faith Filled Friday Blog Hop), but I'm staying for your writing. I'm a new follower.
    Peace and good,'

  20. Tracy:

I have struggled with weight almost all my adult life. A few weeks ago, my place of employement began a "biggest looser" contest. With God's help, I have been able to lose 16.5 pounds so far and I haven't really been hungry. I want to take care of my body, the temple of the Holy Spirit.

    Blessings,
    Joan
