Winsome Wednesday - The fruit of the Spirit!

Gal 5 v 22-23:  But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is
  • Love,
  • Joy (gladness),
  • Peace,
  • Patience (an even temper, forbearance),
  • Faithfulness,
  • (23) Gentleness (meekness, humility),
  • Self-control ( self-restraint, continence).
Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].

What is the fruit that you desire the most?  Obviously we desire all of them but the one that I would like to see come to fruition in my life is self-control.  It seems to be one of the many character traits of mine that is most lacking!

So what does the 'fruit of the Spirit' mean?  To me it means that the more time I spend in the word and the more I seek the Lord the more my life will be infused with the Holy Spirit - and - the more infused one is with the Holy Spirit the more the fruit that blossoms will be of the Holy Spirit.

So, to exhibit more of the fruit of the Spirit we need to spend more time in the word and seeking God!  What an encouragement!

"The work which His presence within accomplishes is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control!"

I kept thinking something was missing from this post and now I realize what it was - The fruit of the spirit is not what we do, its the Holy Spirit working in us who changes us from the inside and that reflects as fruit, these fruit, on the outside.

God bless
Tracy

  4. I heard a Pastor say that we need more fruit of the Spirit and not so many fruit inspectors !! When we discover that we are not the Holy Spirit and allow Him to do a work in others we are then free to cultivate the fruit in our own lives. I am so glad that God offers freely his forgiveness when my fruit begins to spoil. He refreshes and restores my fruit to become like new again! WOW not that is GRACE and MERCY.

  6. A beautiful post Tracy! One of the fruits I desire the most is patience; it seems to be challenged in some way every day when things don't go just the way I planned! I know it is tested, but then strengthened by resting in God’s perfect timing and trusting Him! I need to remember that I can handle whatever this day may bring by responding with patience and complete trust in God’s power and purpose. :)

    Sweet blessings and hugs friend!

  7. Tracy,

I really need to work on patience, I think God agrees because it seems to be tested on a daily basis. This is great encouragement today, to stay centered in Jesus and let Him do a work in us so others can see our fruit.

    Blessings to you tracy.

    1. Hi Kandi - When I was writing this the penny dropped for me at the end, its not what I can do to 'produce' fruit, its spending time with God and let the Holy Spirit do the growing of fruit in me.

  8. Patience is probably the one that I struggle with most often.

I like what you said here - "The fruit of the spirit is not what we do, its the Holy Spirit working in us who changes us from the inside and that reflects as fruit, these fruit, on the outside."

    This is so true.

    Blessings,

  9. yes, my difficulty comes when i try to do the work myself, thinking it's my job to improve in these areas!
but, alas, it doesn't take long to realize the power does not reside in my flesh, but in the Spirit that dwells within me. i think this is the constant battle that wages until we are reunited with Him.
    great words for this day!

  12. While I hope to grow more in each of the fruit, I would probably have to self-control may be the least developed one.

  15. Thanks for the beautiful reminder, Tracy! The way I look at it, the fruit of the Spirit are all manifestations of Him -- different but very similar reflections of the self-sacrificing, agape love of Christ. May we yield to the Spirit moment by moment.

  18. Hi Tracy, the Holy Spirit has gifted me with the gift of Joy! I face many health challenges right now and I have a song in my heart! That is amazing to me! yesterday i was listening to a talk of Joyce Meyer and she was saying that the evil one will take away things, like maybe our car breaks down, or we lose our job, or a relationship gets broken, but that's not what the devil wants. He wants our joy! We shouldn't let him take it away! Patsy from

  19. Self Control is a good fruit to allow to mature. I still have a problem with speaking up too quickly, and put my foot where my mouth is and the taste is not good. :-)
