Winsome Wednesday - Music Moves Me!

What was your favourite song from Sunday School?  Mine was....oh, I don't remember!  But what I do remember is that music moves me.  I am no musician, I am no singer (the interior of my car can attest to that) but music moves me!

Sometimes the kids will be listening to something secular and it makes me feel depressed or anxious so I tell them to please turn off the suicide music already!!  Sometimes something comes on the radio and it just makes me perk up a little!

I keep two things in mind:
  1. Lucifer was the head of music in heaven before he fell, so HE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!
  2. I am just human, so secular stuff, good or bad, can get to me!
Knowing that, I fill my ipod with Christian stuff.  I blast it when I cook (when I don't have to compete with the TV!)  I blast it in the car!  I try to make sure the music influencing my brain most of the time is Christian.  Don't get me wrong, I do listen to secular stuff too but I try to be more selective there.

Ps 100 v 1-2:  Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! (2) Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.
Ps 95 v 1:  Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!  let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Music is an awesome gift from God, the making of it and the appreciating of it.  My encouragement to you is to let God's gift of music move you and if it moves you to praise Him, that's excellent!

God bless
Tracy

  1. I'm with you Tracy. I love music! GOD uses music to speak to me all the time. It's always in my ears even at work. Great post.

  2. I hear you...
I need to fill my ears with more Godly music and just plain Godly wisdom, some podcasts and so on.

God has used secular music to speak to me too, and blessed me that way.

  3. I just love Christian music as well Tracy! How it can change the mood of the soul. Scripture as lyrics that never returns to us void! Thanks my friend! ~ jen

  4. Music is a powerful medium. It quite effectively produces a variety of emotions within us! I agree, it is so important to be careful what we listen to...whether it is music, TV or whatever! So often we can become way too accustomed to things that don't please God. I love many styles of music, both secular and Christian. However, it is the words that are most important. I cringe now when I hear a song I used to listen to when I was a teen and realize that at the time, I didn't think anything about the lyrics! Now I make the better choice to "be careful little ears what you hear".

    Blessings, Joan

  5. Hi Chelle - Christian music is a great way of maintaining a closeness with God

Hi Stefanie - sooo glad to see you here. Looking forward to seeing you at school later :)

Hi Jen - I love how you say that, music can change the mood of the soul. Great way of putting it :)

Hi Joan - I know what you mean. Sometimes a tune is so catchy and when I actually listen to the words, I'm horrified :(

Thank you lovely ladies for commenting. Always a blessing

  6. Hi Tracy:

I also love music and although I do still listen to some secular, I just don't have the desire for it that I once did. I prefer Christian contemporary and praise and worship music.

Forgive me for linking up a post from earlier this week, but last night I didn't feel good, so I didn't get any writing done.

    Blessings,
    Joan

  8. Oh, Tracy, I don't think I have to tell you how much I LOVE music. The Lord often uses songs to teach me lessons and encourage me.

  9. I absolutely LOVE music. Music is going some where in my home or car almost all day long. I love all kinds of music, I am especially a country girl. But secular music, even the "clean" stuff, can bring a spirit of depression or darkness and I don't want that in my home, family or kids. So a few years ago we cleaned our ipods and cd collections and changed our radio presets and only listen to Christian (or instrumental). It is wonderful to be able to worship with Christian music all day!

  12. I love music! Christian music moves me to heights beyond the earthly confines. Oh what joy to let Godly music wash over my soul, renewing, restoring, sometimes allowing tears to flow, and ushering me into God's presence. *Very happy sigh*

  14. Tracy,

I am so with you on the music thing, my ipod too is filled with christian songs, with some oldie but goodies secular music mixed in, but the christian music just uplifts me and warms my heart, it makes me feel closer to Jesus, and I love anaything that brings me closer to Him.

    Blessings to you Tracy.

  15. I played the guitar and banjo but gave it up years ago. My songs were enjoyed by my family but I was told they were not in vogue that songs of Worship were in style. My songs told stories so that was that. I may consider posting some on my blog as time goes by.

  17. I can remember as a very young child - my mother placed me on the platform at church and I sang "Yes Jesus Loves me." It is still one of my favorites.
