James - Faith Confronts the erring Brother

James 5 v 19-20:

Vs 19:  Brethren, if anyone among you wonders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
Vs 20:  Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

This must be such a difficult situation to be in.  To see your brother or sister in Christ backsliding and know that their need of Christ is great.  I pray should the Lord allow me to be a witness to such a person, that I would not fail.

To know that something I could say could save them, or bring them back to Christ, and then not do it would be worse than the embarrassment of saying something that would plant seeds for this person's return to Christ.

James - in Conclusion
My bible explanatory notes for James ends like this:
If we truly believe God's word, we will LIVE it day by day.  God's word is not merely something we read or think about, but something we DO.  Belief, FAITH, and trust must have both hands and feet - OURS!

I hope you have enjoyed this journey with me through James.  I have learnt much that I hadn't seen before and I have a feeling I will be coming back to a few things to digest some more.  James has become my favourite book, after Proverbs, of course!

God bless
Tracy

  1. It is really tough as sometimes when we speak out the person ends up rejecting us and the friendship breaks. Can you tell I have been there, done that?

  2. Thanks for this: 'God's word is not merely something we read or think about, but something we DO.'

Sometimes an unexpected friendship blossoms after honest conversation with someone. It can be different and that is painful ...

  3. Maybe I should get a t-shirt made with a picture of the Bible and Nike's theme--Just do it!

  4. Just do it, comes to my mind. Our job is to just do it and that results of our doing is up to God. Btw, I snagged your button.

  5. Tracy- thanks for stopping by my blog. What an encouragement to know that we are on this road together, seeking to please our Father and bring glory to Him. It is a huge challenge in the world that we live on to make sure that we are staying the course. It is amazing to me how easily selfishness creeps into leadership in the church- although it shouldn't surprise me. Satan has been twisting good things from the very beginning.
All the best on your journey- delighted to be on it with you!

Hi Dayebydaye - good to hear from you. Yes, it is so easy for all the bad stuff to enter in, in the church. We need to pray for our leadership.

  10. This is great way to sum up the book of James - "If we truly believe God's word, we will LIVE it day by day. God's word is not merely something we read or think about, but something we DO. Belief, FAITH, and trust must have both hands and feet - OURS!" Thanks for doing this study, Tracy. Many blessings!

  11. Such a rare and beautiful thing...a friend who will point out our sin in our lives. The toughest thing for a friend...I would think. But, in the end....these friends, the most special and highly respected of all.
