V - Voice

Ahh, the voice of God.  Who does not long to hear His voice?  Many claim to have heard His audible voice.  I haven't!  I'd love to but I think if I did I'd either laugh it off thinking someone was playing a techno trick on me, or I'd be so freaked out I'd be looking for the closest whale to swallow me!

Don't fear the Lord's voice!
Having said that, I think God is gracious with us.  He knows how we listen or hear His voice.  For me, I like to think I hear God speak to me through my conscience.  For example, if I have a bad feeling about something, I avoid it (like do I drive this way or that - or do I watch that movie or not?).  If I have a good feeling about something, I take that as a sign to move forward, step out in faith, for example, tell the waitress that God loves her, etc.

Are you listening?

Sometimes, its those direct words that slam you in the chest when you open your bible for a quiet time.  For example, you're sitting there, feeling overwhelmed, and know it, so you reach for your bible - and the next  scripture for the day is, "don't be overwhelmed by the world....."  Wow, ok, I got it!

I like to think that the more time I spend in the God's word the more I trust my conscience, knowing (that for me) that is how I am hearing God's voice.

  • God's voice is powerful - He "spoke" the earth and all in it into being! (Gen 1)
  • God's voice is confirming - Matt 3 v 17:  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is by beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
  • God's voice is known by His children (kind of disproves my techno theory) - John 10 v 4:  And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him for they know his voice.
  • God's voice call to us, show us He waits and longs for us - Rev 3 v 20:  Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Are you going to let Him in?

Are you listening for His voice?
How do you hear Him?

God bless
Tracy

  1. Over the last few years, I've grown to deeply cherish the Holy Spirit living in us. We have access to Christ 24/7 because of His dwelling in us and we just need to remember to listen.

  2. Are you gonna train your sheep to follow your voice? Helps if you have something in your hand that they like.

  4. I've never heard His audible voice, though I deeply desire to. But I have come to know when He is speaking to me, through my heart. I love it, I cherish it.

  6. I love that when we hear him we know for sure in our hearts that it is our Heavenly Father's voice. If I audibly heard his voice I would also look for a whale like you & there are plenty around here today I better be careful what I say!

  7. In the Old Testament God spoke in a loud mighty winds, and people today still thinks that He does..But what I have found out is my God speaks in those still small voices..now if He wanted to He surely can speak in a mighty wind....when He speaks to me it's a soft voice but when I become deaf and my mind is clutter with other things then God speaks in a mighty wind and I surely can hear Him...Great post sis..and you are almost through the letters amen

  8. Tracy - Just love that. Like sheep...those who know their Master, hear Him. Yet, like you mentioned...God speaks in so many ways! Was just talking about that w/ someone the other day. It's not that God doesn't speak...He always speaks...it's how and whether we listen that matters most. Good word my sister. Have a blessed day! ~ jen

  9. I also like Zeph 3:17 that He sings over us. I like to think He sings over me when the wind blows through the leaves, when the birds sing their sweet song, and when the thunder rumbles overhead. I agree with Jen's comment - that He always speaks, it's if we are listening that determines if we hear Him, ...and maybe sometimes if I don't hear Him I'm not listening hard enough...

  10. Hi Eileen - You bring up a most important point, the Holy Spirit - How did I miss that one! Thank you for reminding me!

Hi Stefanie - funny how we got sheep a day before this post - I'll record your voice and get them to follow you!:)

Hi Marja - yes, another way in which we can listen for God, through the thoughts and writings of others.

Hi Jenifer - I love it too, especially when you see the results of heeding that voice in your heart!

Hi Jedidja - His word is the voice that influences me the most but I long to hear Him more vividly

Hi Tracey - great point, there is no doubting its the Lord when He does "talk" to us. Whales already? I need to go check that out this weekend!

Hi Desiray - I like that, if we don't hear His still quiet voice, He will raise it in ways we will hear!

Hi Jen - great point, its our listening that needs practice and thanks for the great encouragement!

Hi Esther Joy - that is such an awesome "visual"? Maybe that should be audio - Next time the wind blows through the trees, I'm going to imagine the Lord singing over me.

Ladies, as always, you bless me.
Have an awesome joy-filled weekend and LISTEN for Him! :)
    God bless

  11. This was beautiful. I too, hope I hear God's voice daily: however he chooses to speak to me. I cannot imagine life without my bible

  12. Tracy it's true that the more time we spend with God the better able we are to discern His voice. While I have never audibly heard God's voice, He does speak to me in several different ways. We just have to keep listening. Many blessings!

  14. Tracy,
I hear him in many different ways. Sometimes I just have a knowing in my spirit. Other times someone can say something to me I just know God is speaking to me through them. Mostly, when I'm praying & listening to worship music, I sense Him, more than hear Him.
    Blessings,
    ~Erin

  15. Tracy,
Our God is faithful to speak...it is up to us to draw near to His heart and listen. So often, I allow the cares of this world, the busyness of life, and so much more to drown out His voice...His spirit speaking to my Spirit. But....when I am still before Him...even if I am in the midst of chaos...I hear His still small voice.
I am so thankful for His voice...

  16. God speaks to us in many ways...through His word, a timely event, a confirmation through prayer, an impression on our conscience. But however God chooses to speak to us there is one thing I've found to be true. And that is, the more we come to know Him and the close we are to Him, the clearer His voice becomes.

    Blessings, Joan

  17. Hi Shanda - I think my bible is what I would save in a fire

Hi Lisa - I agree with you, we have to keep listening.

Hi Misty - going now to check yours out. thanks for commenting.

Hi Erin - I agree with you. Some songs especially make me feel God's presence more.

Hi Stacy - that is so true. God wants us to be still before Him so He can speak into our lives.

Hi Joan - yes the more we spend time with Him and the closer we try to get to Him, the clearer we hear Him. Great point.

God bless ladies. I hope you are all having a great weekend.
    Tracy
