T - Tempted

James 1 v 12-16:  Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
(13)  Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God", for  God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
(14)  But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
(15)  Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
(16)  Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

Turn from temptation!
So, what does the above chunk of scripture say:
  • You are blessed if you endure and overcome temptation
  • You receive the crown of life (probably because God knows the strength of the attack of the enemy)
  • You cannot blame God if you're tempted - He cannot be tempted not tempts anyone!
  • You can be more easily tempted when you don't spend time with the Lord and in His word.
  • The results of falling into temptation can be devastating!
  • Wisely, the writer admonishes us not to be deceived.

Prov 14 v 16(a):  A wise man fears and departs from evil...
An excellent fitness opportunity - RUN from evil, RUN from temptation.
No shame in running from temptation

And remember, 1 Cor 10 v 13:  No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
My encouragement to you - keep close to the Lord, He protects you and will open your eyes to deception.

God bless
Tracy

  4. I love the New Living Translation of 1 Corinthians 10:13. It says, "But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it."

When we are face to face with temptation, we have to look for the way out that God has promised and then run as fast as we can!

    Great post Tracy! :)

  5. I needed these words this morning.....Temptation comes in so many forms...I am trying to loose weight and I have a weakness for sweets and it seems they appear at every corner....God has promised that He will make an escape from temptation and He is helping me every day to resist and turn to Him for the power to overcome.......A very helpful post...thank you.

Thank you too for your sweet comments you left for me during your visit. I appreciate them so much.

    Hugs and blessings,

  6. Sometimes that rebellious human nature wants to do what we are not supposed to. My niece used to come over and put her finger half an inch from the tv screen, just because she knew she couldn't touch it. I want to stand strong against temptation. To do so, I need to keep close to the Lord, as you said. Great encouragement.

  7. Thank you so much for this. We can be tempted in different ways many times throughout the day. But as you said, we have to stay close to Jesus and His Word to better see those tempting moments.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting :) Many blessings to you today - Debbie

  8. Hi Chelle - Glad my post encouraged you.

Hi Stefanie - the fitness pill is right there next to the temptation pill.

    Hi Marja - so true

Hi Denise - that is an awesome translation. Sounds so caring. Love what you say about seeking the way out that God has prepared for us. Great perspective

Hi Nancy - I kind of avoid the bible when it comes to weight!!! But it applies to ALL areas. Glad I could encourage you.

Hi Jenifer - I agree with you. I think we think we are strong enough when we are not close to God, but in reality, He is our strength, so the farther away we are from His word, the weaker we are.

Hi Debbie - thanks for commenting. Staying close to Jesus is the only way to be strong enough!

Thank you lovely ladies - I truly appreciate each and every comment.
    God bless

  9. I am so thankful to know that I do not face temptation alone, and that the closer I am to the Lord the greater His strength within me to resist. Thanks for this Tracy.

BTW - I would love to visit South Africa. Maybe the Lord will bless me with that awesome blessing in the future.

    God bless you!

  10. Oh how I want to run when tempted. I think of Joseph and how he sprinted away from Potipher's wife. I want to run straight into the arms of Jesus!

  11. Temptation is harder to flee when we haven't been spending time with God and in His Word. That is so true! God always provides a way out, we just have to be willing to look for it and take it. Lots of good encouragement today, Tracy!

  12. Staying connected to Him does help us be better prepared to resist temptation.

  13. Tracy,

When we don't stay close to Jesus we fall into temptation more easily because we don't recognize it, He will lead us from temptation if we keep our hearts and minds firmly fixed on Jesus.

    Blessings to you Tracy.

  14. Temptation is a topic we should be familiar with as Christians. Not like ostriches in the sand but aware of the dangers and the importance of fleeing to God. Great reminder Tracy! http://beckfarfromhome.blogspot.com/2011/08/sister-to-sister-serving.html

  15. Hi Deb - thats a great point, we do not face temptation alone.
    Blessings to you too

Hi Shannon - Straight into the arms of Jesus - amen

Hi Lisa - yes, we just have to be willing to look for that escape, a whole different perspective. thanks for the encouraging words

Hi Wanda - I like that, better prepare. Good way of putting it

HI Kandi - keeping our hearts and minds stayed on Him is the way to avoid being in situations without His protection

Hi Beck - I agree with you. I've found through doing this exercise that its about perspective too, instead of "I'm being tempted, woe is me" - one should be saying "God provides a way out of this, let me find it, quick!"

Thanks ladies for all your encouraging comments. I enjoy and appreciate them all
    God bless
    Tracy
