S - Serve

Who should we be serving?
Matt 6 v 24:  No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon (riches)

How  should we be serving?
Gal 5 v 13:  For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Going the extra mile!
Why should we serve?
Col 3 v 22:  Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye service as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.

Col 3 V 23-24:  And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, (24) knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

We serve in obedience and as unto the Lord, and God rewards us with a heavenly reward.

Service is an act of love.  For some, it is their love language.  So to serve others, as if you were serving the Lord, you show the Lord's love and God sees and He rewards.  Don't look for reward (a pat on the back) from the person you serve, serve knowing your reward is in heaven.

Serving with Joy!

My encouragement to you is to serve in love with no expectation, other than a 'knowing' that God sees and God rewards.

God bless
Tracy

  1. I love this post, Tracy. No better S word to write on than service. And so true to remind ourselves daily that we expect nothing in return.

  2. I think that Mom's naturally work out their love in acts of service, esp to their hubbies and children. Not so easy to remember it is as unto the Lord, and not to want a little thank-you.

  3. I have a picture of our youngest daughter (ages ago) about the same age as this picture . . . washing our car. And she still has a sweet servant's heart.

    Fondly,

  5. A perfect s-word. It's easy to get caught up in today's what about me culture that we forget to seek out opportunity to serve others right where we are.

  6. Hi Shanda - thank you, I think to serve with expectation sets one up for failure. I'd rather put my hope in Jesus.

Hi Stefanie - I know, especially at home, one hopes to be appreciated. Can be hard

Hi Glenda - I couldn't resist that cute smile and joy at helping

Hi Kelly - Its great to be part of God's answers to others.

Hi Wanda - I like what you say - serve right where you are.

  8. Tracy, this is wonderful encouragement. Col 3:23-24 are my favorites for putting on a new attitude as I work. Sometimes the only way we can serve is in the Love of Christ and doing it with out expectation is so freeing and rewarding all on it's own :) Great post!!

  9. Tracy, I like the first scripture you used. We shouldn't do things out of selfish gain, but instead we should serve one another in love.

  13. Hi Deb - I couldn't resist that one

Hi Heidi - you hit the nail on the head, doing service without expectation is freeing

Hi Lisa - I think the word says this so we have no excuses to not serve. Do it in love, as unto Christ! Kind of eliminates the selfish gain thing.

Hi Lisa - thank you, you are making me feel all warm and fuzzy now :)
    Blessings to you too.

Hi Dawn - absolutely. When I'm having a pity party, going out and doing something for someone else most certainly does take your mind off self. Great point

Hi Allison - I can see by your smile that you serve with love. You are a great blessing to others, used of Christ.

God bless you all ladies. Your encouragement makes my day.

  14. This is the second post I've read today about serving. I'm reminded that Jesus himself said that he did not come to be served, but to serve.

You are so right, service is an act of love.

    Blessings,
    Joan
