L - Letters

As a teenager I used to write tons of letters.  I went to quite a few Christian youth camps and met new friends and so I used to write to about 30 people.  We would send and receive snail-mail and it was so awesome coming home from school and finding a letter, just for me!  Of course, I collected stamps as well, but you can only have so many local stamps before you reach saturation point!

Can you remember what that felt like?  With email, texting, all the various social networks, its no wonder my hand-writing is now shocking!

My point, though, nothing beat that feel good feeling when you received personal mail.  (I think I might start writing to a few friends?)

Well, God has written us several letters and they're all bound in a book.  These days us ladies like our multi-colour, leather, zip-up version of His bound letters.  He loves us so much He wanted a record to show us what He has done for us up to this point and what His plans are for our future.  He described in detail the world He created for us.  He wrote the stories of many of His children so we could learn from their examples (and their mistakes).  He wrote how we could live a full and pleasing life with peace and joy.  He wrote about how we can overcome.

His letters to us demonstrate His love for us, His vision for us, His plan for us, to live with Him in eternity.  His letters encourage, convict, comfort, and exhort us.

Ps 119 v 50:  This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.

Ps 119 v 105:  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

My encouragement to you is to read God's letters to you, they were written for you because you have God's heart.

God bless
Tracy

  1. Love letters all of them, another great post T. Food for thought, reaffirming what I know, but needed to hear again.

  2. I love the letters, everytime I open them I find something new, something that sometimes I feel was written just for me, for my eyes only, just for me from the Father. Great words to end the week with. Have a great weekend Tracy.

  5. I remember getting and sending letters in the mail. It was so exciting. Like you said, my handwriting, though never really good, has been awful now that I text and email instead of write.

One letter I can still go to over and over is His Letter. I love the Word of God!

  10. Started having my 5 yr old writing writing her cousins...the old fashioned way. Priceless the look on her face when a letter comes in the mail. And yet, I love how you said...each day, we have access to our own Love Letter....from God. Stirs me to break open the Word this morning as quickly as my daughter tares open her letters awaiting her on the table when she wakes. Great encouragement, my sister. ~ jen

  11. Hi Tracy,
What a beautiful post...one that strired up many happy memories, but through the Holy Spirit, one that also brought conviction to my heart. I, too, couldn't wait to rip open a letter from a friend...but...sadly, I don't always approach my letters from God with the same excitement...and His are LOVE letters to me!
Thanks for sharing your heart and for blessing mine-
I appreciate your new friendship and all your sweet words~

  12. Hi Heart and Soul - I agree, I watched a sitcom the other day where the teacher was telling them to post a letter, and they asked what a post office was!

Hi Jen - Yes, we should be as excited about reading His word as a letter from a friend. Thanks for the great comment.

Hi Stacy - And I appreciate yours. Thanks for the comment. Its a blessing to me

Thank you ladies - I love hearing from you.

  13. I followed Desiray to your blog.

What a wonderful blessing that the Lord has left us letters for every day. That they never fade or get 'wrinkled' or illegible. That we can read His letters in any language or transalation and that these letters are not a secret.

Millions are taking a peek at them every day.

    Great post

  15. Oh my goodness, I still excited to go get the mail,in hopes that a letter will be there. I love getting letters although no one really sends them through the mail anymore. I love getting email as well-so fun. You would think I would be great at writing letters, but alas, I stink.
To love to read God's letter to me as much as I love other letters-thank you for the challenge.
