J - Joy

I was going to do a post about jealousy, and thought, "that is NOT encouraging and up-lifting!"  Thus - Joy

In the last 4 years we as a family have suffered the consequences of someone else's intense jealousy (ok, ok - I'm getting to joy!) and in that time I have had many low moments.

One of the things I have said often to my husband over this time is "I know God is in control, I know He has a plan and a purpose in this, I know we are trying to handle this God's way, I know we have overcome much in this time, I know we have received grace and mercy and favour (all undeserved I might add) - BUT - where is the joy?"

Well, trials and tribulations suck the joy right our of you.

What does God's word say about experiencing joy in the hard things?
Ps 16 v 11:  You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasure forever more.
Joy comes from spending time in God's presence

Jer 15 v 16:  Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.
Joy comes from reading and spending time in God's word, not just reading over, but absorbing it into your being.

Ps 30 v 5(b):  ...Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
We need to realize that the trials we go through will not last forever.  For some these trials are short and for others some trials seem to last forever.  There are seasons, summers and winters.
Remain as close to God as you can - I think joy in the hard times comes from reaching that place in your heart and head where you decide to trust God and His word, despite the circumstances.

Neh 8 v 10(b): ....The joy of the Lord is my strength
I think this means when you come to that place of faith in the Lord, trusting Him in your circumstance, you feel release from worry and thus His joy is your strength.

Matt 25 v 21:  His lord said to him, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.  Enter into the joy of your lord."
Joy comes from being faithful with what God has given you.  Don't you feel an inner peace, a glow inside, when you step out in faith and do something for the Lord?  Bless someone, a random act of kindness, a word in season, etc?  So, when you feel joyless - go do something good for someone else.  It like a salve to your soul.

Rom 14 v 17:  For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Be filled with the Holy Spirit, Gods' comforter!

Finally, James 1 v 2:  My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.
When the devil is attacking you, you must be doing something right!  Right?

Raining trials? Look up - He refreshes with joy!

My encouragement to you is don't give up - joy infuses your spirit slowly as you spend time with God and start to trust Him no matter what, as it is He who loves you unconditionally.

God bless
Tracy

  1. Well done...joy comes in the morning. We can always wait on it and trust God to give it. He promises! Claiming that.

  2. Sometimes we do have to search for that joy, but often for me it is in the little things. Like having breakfast with a friend, a child giggling and finding something I thought was lost for ever.

  3. Great post Tracy; If we listen deeply to His kind and uplifting words of peace and joy, we will become stronger and more capable of replacing every negative worry with multiple positive actions.

I love what Charles Swindoll writes: "We live with joyful confidence in the assured expectation that Christ will one day set all things right. It's the joy of knowing that we have been renewed and that we are in the process of becoming more like Jesus. It's the kind of joy we experience when things are going well and we can anticipate His coming again without unpleasant circumstances to distract us.

    Have a joyful day!

  5. Tracy,

So often we think we can only find joy in the big things, but I am discovering more joy in the small things, a good cup of coffee, a hug or a smile for someone I love, that is where I am finding I find my greatest joy.

    Blessings

  6. Hi Shanda - I'm so grateful that God gives us renewed grace every morning. Without it I'd have no joy!

Hi Stefanie - I agree with you, its definitely the little things in which you can find joy.

Hi Denise - what a lovely excerpt! Its in the knowing that it'll all be ok in Christ.

Hi Glenda - yes, the joy of the Lord is most definitely our strength in chaos!

Hi Kandi - I agree with you. Joy in the many little things all adds up.

Thank you ladies for your comments. I always appreciate them

  7. Joy is my favorite word in the Bible. I am always aware: if I loose my joy, I loose my strength.
    Glad you did JOY Traci!

  8. My kids gave me a plaque that says "You scatter joy". I love that plaque except for the times I don't feel joy or when I'm around toxic joy suckers. But you are so right, Gods Word and His grace raining down on us is our source of joy! I needed this post today, Tracy. Thanks so much for sharing what God put in your heart!
    Blessings,

  13. Hi Marja - I'm learning more about joy in that it is not dependent on feelings but on faith. Thanks for the encouragement

Hi Erin - Thank you for your encouragement. That's a great plaque from your kids. Mine would probably read "My Mom, she's nuts" :)

Hi Jenifer - Yes, joy comes in the morning, and surprises you when you least expect it.

Hi Desiray - if your joy is from the Lord, then this is absolutely true.

Hi Jen - I'm learning that - His joy is the only true joy!

  14. Loved this post Tracy! I think we can embrace Joy in the midst of trials because of His promise to go through them with us. I like the way you put it... " joy infuses your spirit slowly as you spend time with God and start to trust Him no matter what, as it is He who loves you unconditionally." It's so true and for sure we are filled with Joy when we are on the other side of the trial looking back! Love Psalm 30:5 :) Blessings!

  16. Tracy, I loved this. I was reading this and by the end, I was filled with JOY. I guess that is what happens when we shovel in those wonderful promises. I need to write a couple of those down and put them on my nightstand!!

  19. Joy is hard to find sometimes, mainly because I think because we confuse it with fleeting happiness sometimes. Thanks for these great Scriptural reminders!

  20. Hi Heidi - I like what you say, when we've gotten through a trial with Him, there is joy.

Hi Chelle - I'm glad you came by if it was something you needed. God is so good that way.

Hi Jackie - I agree with you, in the reading of His word the joy starts to come.

    Hi Joan - amen

Hi Allison - when we're in the middle of it, it does not seem possible, but God's word is true, we can hold onto it.

Hi Deidra - you are so right. We think joy is the same as worldly happiness. But it isn't. It is so much deeper.

Ladies - you are awesome. Thank you for your comments, they are so encouraging.

    God bless
    Tracy
