Proverbs 29

These are the verses in Proverbs 29 that stood out for me today:

Vs 9:  If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace.

This is so true.  Don't you often have discussions or arguments in your mind with certain people?  They always listen to reason - in your mind - There are some people you can't reason with, thus no peace.  The answer, don't bother getting into a discussion or debate with people like this, it'll just lead to arguments.

Vs 11:  A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back.

I wonder if Solomon was being diplomatic here by saying  'fool' instead of 'woman'?  Only joking, only joking!  We don't vent like that!!  But really, this is a challenge for me - TO KEEP QUIET - but I shall persevere.  I don't want to be thought of as a fool.

Vs 23:  A man's pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honour.

In God's economy things work opposite to the world's.  If you elevate yourself, become prideful, God allows you to be humbled.  The other day I was telling someone, "that person is worried I'll bump into his car, hmph, I'm a good driver, gee, what's his problem?"  and promptly reversed (slowly I might add) into a tree!  Nothing like being humbled.

If we remain humble though, God's word says He will elevate you.  Sadly, in the world the humble are looked down on and the prideful are icons.  As Christians, we shouldn't be too bothered by this as we should desire to please God and not man.

Proverbs speaks often of humility.  It is how God wants us to live our lives.  My encouragement to you is to strive to remain humble in all things, because to please God is more to be desired than to please man.

God bless
Tracy

Hi Kelly, not so much the tree, but a scratch on the bumper (to remind me of my need for humility) a kind of bumper sticker, right?

    God's best blessings to you!!

  5. Hi Lisa - I'm so glad you're visiting! Yes, the bumper sticker humbling is funny now and hopefully a lesson to me not to look for a bigger humbling!

  6. Verse 11 spoke to me today, Tracy. I've been known to talk too much. I don't want to be considered a fool by my words. Let my words be few.

  7. This is what God has been laying on my heart very intently recently - to watch my words, to not jump on pretense and things to argue over. This is not pleasing to the Lord. Thanks for the reminder!

  9. A fool vents his feelings but a wise man holds them back. Wow! That speaks loudly. I read something once about how its better to stay quiet and appear wise than to open your mouth and prove your foolishness. I needed that reminder. Thanks!
