Do whatever you do as unto the Lord!

Col 3 v 23-24:  Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as something done for the Lord and not for men.  Knowing with all certainty that it is from the Lord (and not from men) that you will receive the inheritance which is your real reward.  The one whom you are actually serving is the Lord Christ, the Messiah!

Over the years when I have done things for people, particularly my family, and I have found that it is not appreciated, I have gotten resentful.  But this scripture totally eliminates that from happening!  If you do what you are doing for whoever, be it a friend, an organisation, family - do it as unto the Lord - you don't desire a reward, a pat on the back, from those you're helping.  The reason being, you KNOW THAT GOD WILL REWARD YOU.  Maybe immediately, maybe later, or maybe only in heaven - But - He says He will reward you  and God is not a man the He would lie!

If doing something as unto the Lord is your motivation, then you desire to do it to the best of your ability, heartily!  At the end of the day, you are a happier person because you did a good job and did not have expectations, the person you are helping is happier because you did a great job, and God gets the glory.

God will reward you!

This is my goal!  My encouragement to you is to do what you do, whether it be child minding, office work, grocery shopping, painting, helping, whatever it is - do it as unto the Lord - your expectation being in Him alone!

God bless
Tracy

  1. Sometimes I lose sight of this, thanks for the reminder that it isn't unto the child who asked me to do it.

  2. I have an especially hard time with this. After all, I do have the whole "lazy" thing working against me. I had a job once where I was kind of slacking, and my boss called me on it. I started sobbing in front of him and told him about this Bible verse and said I should be doing better. lol It was a rough scene!

  3. We are surely in the same spirit this day, I just posted this verse on my facebook status. When we think of do as unto the Lord our jobs are to be as we are working for GOD. And so often many people are just not working as unto the Lord.

When I think of this verse I think about how people are on there jobs and they are at the computer doing twitter and Facebook and blogs and all other things, on company time. That is not working as unto the Lord, what that is being disobedient to the Lord. Our work must reflect Jesus and if we are doing personal things on company time then we are not working as unto the Lord.

And sadly but so not many believers believe this they think that they can do what ever they want if they are posting bible verses and Christian blogs God said we must be obedient to those in whom we serve, Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and give to God what is God's.” .

Thanks for the post did not mean to run off in another direction with it.

  4. My church did a series this over the winter, work hard and commit everything you do to the Lord, as if you are working for Jesus, I have to admit that is sometimes hard to do when I am dealing with a prickly person. I have to admit I have not always done everything as if I am working for the Lord, it is a goal I have not yet reached but one I am striving towards.

    Blessings to you Tracy.

  5. Hi Stefanie - those little people are sometimes the least appreciative, but we must persevere.

Hi Rachel - I bet your boss didn't challenge you again. Nothing like waterworks to dent the boss! Hope the reason behind it was a testimony.

Hi Desiray - I completely understand your comment. We had people work for us who took advantage. Made me think about what I did in someone else's work environment.

Thanks for the comments ladies. i always always appreciate them

  7. It changes everything when we remember just who it is we are working for, doesn't it?! We get motivated, we feel peace and the blessings just seem to flow! Great post, thank you :)

  8. Oh my, are speaking to me Tracy? :) This is an obstacle I have faced in the past, and I have prayed about and worked on. It is my desire to always give my gifts without expectations and approval; it's really all about giving and doing as Jesus would do. :)
    Great post! :)

  9. You are so right. Sometimes we get so discouraged when we do something and don't get recognized. But we don't need to be be that way. And when we are, we need to pray about it. Thanks for this, Tracy!

  11. Well this makes my toes hurt!:)-as I have been grumbling while doing laundry and dishes lately, because my house is such a mess. But that can be done "unto the Lord". So glad I caught up on your posts. When I finish my dishes later, hopefully I will do it with a smile.

Hi Denise - This is a constant obstacle for me - so I'm talking to me too. Thanks for always commenting. I appreciate it.

Hi Kelly - The reason I tackled this is because I need to be reminded myself, as I tend to take not been appreciated personally. Do it unto Jesus and you can only grow. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Allison - I also saw it twice yesterday and felt the same thing. You talking to me God? Best I listen. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Tami - I know what you mean. The girls wanted to bake last night and guess who got to clean up after them. GREAT appreciation! Oops, forgot that I should be doing all unto the Lord. I always enjoy your comments
