Proverbs 23

These are the verses in Proverbs 23 that stood out for me today:

Vs 3:  Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.
In context this is about eating from a ruler's table, but what comes to mind is to not 'want' what others have, whatever that may be.

Vs 19:  Hear, my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way.
Vs 26:  My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
Look how God calls out to us to listen, hear, submit our hearts to Him.  He wants to guide us in His ways and prosper us with life, good life.

Vs 24:  The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise child will delight in him.
Vs 25:  Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who bore you rejoice.
My folks are not born-again, but both acknowledge that my life is different, that my husband and I seem to have a strong, respectful marriage, and that my children are different.  I would like to think all these 'differences' they see are because of Christ, my Lord and Saviour.

I would like to believe my children will succeed in Christ even more than my husband and I and that these verses will be true of us.

This is a short one today, but nevertheless, just as practical and true.
How has God shown you His truth today?

God bless
Tracy

  1. God is so good in the way he blesses us, but also in the way he blesses those around us like unbelieving parents. His goodness always astounds me.

  2. God continues to speak to me through His Word. Right now I'm reading Psalms and the latest message is to not forgot all that God has done.

  3. Hi Stefanie - Yes, I agree, He is amazing.

Hi Lisa - I love Psalms too - David was very good at remembering what God did for the Israelites. He is an amazing example for us all.

  5. Tracy,

God has many ways He speaks to us, through His word, through other people, He is definitely speaking through my sweet bloggy friends this morning. These Proverbs really hit home with me today, especially v26, it was a reminder to me that He wants me to submit my whole heart to Him that He wants to guide me to what He knows is good for me, not what I think is good for me.

    Blessings to you Tracy.

  6. I too think that my husband and I have a strong, respectful marriage, and that my children are different because of Jesus. It is always heartening to hear that others do notice. Thanks for putting these thoughts into words to encourage all of us.

    Short, but important :)

  8. I am with Kelly on verse 19 and as you saw by my latest post you see how this speaks to me. I just want to say thank you for adding me and the "project" to your prayer list...that means so much to me! :)

  9. Great insights on Proverbs! I'm not a mom yet, but I pray verses 24-25 over my future children because I want them to have a Jesus centered life. That is something a mom can truly rejoice over!

My husband and I are listening to a pastor teach on Proverbs during our "church time" during the week and we learn so much from Solomon's teaching!

  10. Oh Tracy, that is my heart's desire: that my children walk after the Lord. They were brought up loving God but my two 20 year old boys are seeking their own way right and my biggest prayer is that they will return to the love of God and faith they were brought up in.

  11. I think the first verse spoke out to me the best - not wanting what others have. That's always a difficult one, isn't it?

Thanks for visiting my blog the other day. I changed the name, so please click on the link to see my new name so you can know where to find me next time. :)

Also, I'm just curious, are you going to do another bible study on-line like you are doing with the book of Proverbs? I'm just wondering. I enjoy reading your scripture reflections.
