Proverbs 16

I am just over halfway through my study of Proverbs and still loving it.  These are the verse that stand out for me today.

Vs 3:  Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
I love the Amplified version.  It really fills a scripture out.  This verse tells me if I commit what I do, genuinely and completely to Him, He will cause what I am thinking to line up with His will.  That is awesome!  This should give us a sense of peace that as we strive to seek God in all we do and commit all we have to Him, we will start thinking in accordance with His will.
Consider Vs 9 with this scripture:  A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

We have to trust God with everything.  He has only our best interests at heart.

Vs 6:  By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man - not by sacrificial offerings], iniquity is purged out of the heart, and by reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil.

This tells me that if we are merciful to others, if we show love, are truthful to God and man, our sinful natures will be changed, our hearts cleansed.  All this, by the reverent and worshipful fear (Godly respect) of the Lord.  And we will turn from and avoid evil.

And finally, vs 32:  He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his own spirit than he who takes a city.

I don't think a person's desire is to be 'better' than the mighty or 'better' than someone who takes a city - but - God says when we control our tempers, we are.

My encouragement to you - bite your tongue - no, only joking!  Immerse yourself in God's word, for from it springs life.

God bless
Tracy

  1. I love that verse. Was the first verse I ever felt God give me as a newbie Christian and it still blesses me reading it again today. I'm gonna get rolling then, shall I?

  8. I just recently read that same proverb and write an article about it -- delving into why, even when we commit our plans -- the Lord does not bless them. You have highlighted the perfect point -- first our plans must conform to His will. Our motives need to be in line with Him!

  12. Hi Tracy,

So good to meet you. WOW, South Africa, you have no idea how much that excites me because I have always wanted to visit Africa, my church does a missions trip every year there and hopefully I will be raise enough money one day and be able to go. The part you wrote about v3 really spoke to me because I recently decided to go back to school and I have been questioning that decision whether or not that is the path God wants me to take. I guess I am looking at the years of work I have ahead of me and wonder of there isn't a faster way get there, but time means nothing to God. Thank you for writing that because now I am certain that that is where I supposed be.

    Blessings to you Tracy.

  13. Tracy, love this breakdown of Proverbs. When we commit our ways to Him, then His ways become our ways. I want to follow Him always.
Thanks for stopping by and following my blog. I am following you now too and I look forward to reading more. Many blessings!

  14. Tracy,

It would seem like "common sense" that our plans mean nothing without the guidance that comes from the Lord. Yet, as Christians, we sometimes fail to recognize this. May I strive more to live the way God intends me to live!

I like what I am reading here. I'm glad that I found your blog today.

    Blessings,
