New Year's Resolutions revisited

I normally start every year with a short list of new year's resolutions. The reason being, its hard enough to try keep ONE resolution, never mind a long list of them.  However, they are normally the same:  Lose weight, get fit, read my bible more, be a better wife and mother.  And to a degree I achieve some of them, for example, I lose hundreds of kilos, only problem its normally the same one!!  If driving counted for getting fit I'd be so buff its just not funny.  The most important one, reading my bible more always seems to elude me.

So, I decided to do things differently this year.  I decided that I am going to have only ONE new year's resolution and that is:  Matt 6 v 33:  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Prov 3 v 6 says:  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths

I believe that as I spend time in God's word, His word will start to work in my heart and as I acknowledge Him in all that I do, He shall guide me.  I believe that my attitudes will start to change for the better, my habits will start changing for the better.  My speech will be more positive and I will see people in a better light.  I believe I will have more compassion and understanding for others and my heart will start to be full of His light as I spend time in His word which will squeeze all the worldy fleshly things that have place in my heart.

This is of course conditional on actually spending time in God's word and seeking His kingdom.  I have to prioritize quiet times and put God ahead of the traffic rush or the school emergencies or work related happenings.  Therein lies the challenge, the resolution.  Therein lies the nitty-gritty.

I would like to say at the end of this year that I lost weight, got fitter, am a better wife and mother than the year before - all because I spent time in the word and sought the Lord!  That is my resolution!

My encouragement to you is don't burden yourself with tons of resolutions - seek God daily and He will start making changes in you as in  2 Corinth 3 v 18:  But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

God bless
