About 8 or 9 years ago I went through some counciling and I can remember at one stage when my councilor and I were praying and she said for me to be still and quiet and listen and that God would show me a picture or scripture of how He sees me. I felt quite daft but kept quiet and tried not to think of anything else and slowly but surely a picture formed in my mind. It was of a young sapling tree planted by the river. I saw how the sapling bent with the wind and the storms but did not break.
Its stem was flexible and the reason for this was because it was planted on the river bank. God showed me that the tree was me. That turmoil and hurt will bend me but because I am planted at the stream of living water, Jesus my Lord and Saviour, I would not break. It was eye-opening for me. It showed me that the more we seek the living waters of Christ through His word and through prayer, the more able we will be to handle the storms that come our way. Picture that as the tree grows, it does'nt bend as much anymore!
Soon after that, my quiet time lead me to Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. HE SHALL BE LIKE A TREE PLANTED BY THE RIVERS OF WATER, THAT BRING FORTH ITS FRUIT IN ITS SEASON, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
This is the reason why lollipop trees mean so much to me. Especially those that bare fruit. My home is full of them, lollipop tree ornaments, lollipop tree sandblasted at my front door. They are there to remind me!
My encouragement to you is to hold onto those pictures or scriptures or meanings that God has given to you so when you are going through something hard and hurtful, you know He is right there with you and is working in you because He loves you.
